Can't believe I'm asking this...…

InSinkErator 1/3 Horse shit the bed - Hey it's 20yrs old.

So I'm going with SigForm approved Waste Kang. Was thinking of using the 1/2 Horse but figured I'd ask if the 3/4 Horse is better?? It is just the wife and I at home. We don't grind Yaks or tree trimmings.

Opinions??

Andrew

When my 22 year old Insinkerator died, I considered a Waste Kang but decided on a 3/4 hp Insinkerator Evolution Compact instead. Used less undercabinet space and screwed right onto the existing Insinkerator drain fittings making for a trivial swap. Drain connections mated up as well.

When I lived in AK, my 1/3 hp Badger (builder quality line for InSinkerator) died. I installed a 1 hp Waste Kang 9980. It was quieter than the Badger, never tripped a breaker, and ate everything I fed it.

How to select the right size garbage disposal from Waste Kang's website:

I'd go with higher HP than that. I have no experience with Waste Kangs, but they get high reviews here.

I bought 2, 1 1/4HP American Standard disposals at Costco on sale for $70 about 2 years ago for 2 different rental properties. They have an all stainless steel body and stainless guts. Costco still sells them. They have been flawless, and haven't had a single issue with them. The crappy badger ones from HD or Lowe's were only lasting 2-3 years.

Ours recently died and I went back and forth on going bigger too. Replaced one was 1/3 HP insinkerator.

Ended up with another 1/3 HP. Went with the waste king though. So far no regrets.

We hardly put any waste down the drain though. Just whatever is left on the dishes. Never clean vegetables and put them down it or anything like that.

The "Tool Man" wouldn't use any crappy 1hp anything. He would have a Chevy small block crammed under the sink.

Yes. Don’t recall when or why but has been a long ongoing purposeful reference on the forum

Of course your wiring would be ok for either of them, but you would use more electricity for the 3/4 than the 1/2hp.

I would not think you would need the larger one.

If you notice the difference in your electric bill between a 1/2 hp garbage disposal and a 3/4 hp garbage disposal then you need to rethink how you're using your garbage disposal.
