A slight thread drift…

Several years ago I discovered a neat use for nail clippers: I’ve long used Colgate toothpaste. The bottom of the tube is crimped, its corners are sharp, and they dig into my palm while I squeeze toothpaste onto my toothbrush, especially when the tube is full.

So I take my nail clippers and make one small clip on each of the two corners, at about a 45° angle. Problem solved.

My better half bought me the Seki Edge set for Christmas. The set includes 2 clippers , a diagonal clipper, file ,scissor & tweezers.
The clippers are high quality & will probably last a lifetime.

I have a good nail clippers – one recommended earlier in this thread. But nowadays I use it only to snip off hangnails. Nail clippers are unbeatable for that task.

For fingernails, I spend two or three minutes every day with a good two-sided medium/fine nail file.

For toenails, I use an unorthodox tool – a small (4-1/2”) diagonal cutters. Yep, you read that right. The older I get the thicker my toenails get. I’ve tried nail clippers made specifically for toenails, but the diagonal cutters work best for me, by far.

They leave the toenail pretty rough, but 20 seconds work with a coarse nail file takes care of the roughness.

BTW – I file my finger nails every day, but I work on a toenail only at need. Once or twice a week, one or another toenail will need trimming.

I found the Victorinox nail clippers to be reasonably priced, stay sharp for many years, and fold up compact for travel.

I got the Harperton as shown above after recommendation here. I have no complaints about them, except I need to hide them from the wife who has a drawer full of Trims and such.

I agree with Pipe Smoker, though that the Kihip clippers look like a good way to part with the better part of a Benjamin to feel pampered.

Love mine. Good design.

Agreed - thought this was where I got recommendation. Too bad they don't make a larger set for toenails or I'd have those too!

Edit - I see they do now. Can I put this on my Sigforum credit card?

You want to splurge? I like German engineering, myself. The stainless steel tools are made in Germany. I like them. The sharpness last a long time.

Germanikure. 5 pc goes for $108 to an 8 piece for $183. I got the 7 pc roll up leather case for $177.

We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."
