PET Scan update
It's spread & they saw a spot on his liver & pancreas. They're going to do an additional biopsy.

Mastectomy has been canceled & they're putting in a chemo port instead.

Update #2

We found out today that her dad doesn’t have the aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. He has 3 different types of cancer - endocrine non-aggressive pancreatic, leukemia and breast cancer. We are being told the cancer in his liver is due to it being so close to the pancreas, but is non life threatening and not metastatic. All of the cancer that he has is separate and treatable!

Thank you to all of you that prayed for him. Still a ways to go, but this was a definite light in a tough time.

Update 3
FIL had his first appt with MD Anderson today.
His breast oncologist has a very optimistic outlook on things & thinks he'll be able just have a lumpectomy rather than a full mastectomy.
Also, no trace in his lymph nodes.

They think he'll likely not need any chemo/radiation for the breast cancer.
The pancreatic will be addressed once the breast is resolved.

Bit of good news to end the year on.

Well, a less good update.
FIL had his first GI appt yesterday.

Initial determination is that it is Neuro Endocrine Metastatic Carcinoma on his pancreas

From what my wife has been reading, it sounds like a 38% chance of 5 year survival, if the treatment doesn't stem it from growing/spreading.

He's getting scheduled for another pet scan so they can see if it's spread elsewhere.
The breast Dr had told him that it hadn't gone to his lymph nodes.

We appreciate all the good thoughts & prayers for him.
Just holding onto hope that this can be managed.

Lumpectomy for the breast cancer tomorrow.
Not needing a full mastectomy.

Drs at MD Anderson seem to be handling things well so far, he & my wife like them more than the prior oncologist he was seeing.

Another update.
FIL goes in today to get his chemo port removed.

It was put in at the insistence of his first oncologist.
The Drs at MD Anderson are confident that the current treatment plan will not have any need for it.

Sucks that he has to do 2 surgeries for something that wasn't needed, But glad he won't have to do chemo. Silver linings.

He'll start radiation next week for the breast cancer. IIRC he's only going to need 1 week of treatment.

Drs for the pancreatic & leukemia seem to be pleased with how things are going with those.

Thanks all, again, for all the prayers for him. It's been tough, but all things considered, it's about the best case of a bad siuation.
