phil in indyDR is eastern part. Haiti is western part. My wife and I went to puerto plata years ago on an all inclusive trip with ambassadair. We had a great time until the she got sick. When she asked where we were going when they finally announced it on the plane. I told her she was going to actually see a third world country. The tours were interesting. Lots of history down there

Except maybe for some of that Brugal Anejo or some Bacoo or umm some Kirk and Sweeney.
If you stay in the resort and don't get poisoned by Mrs Peacock in the library you are GTG. Yes the place is a shithole country, but you can still have a good time. Same is true for most Caribbean destinations.
One of the times after the island was destroyed from the normal hurricanes that pass through I got a silly week long all inclusive vacation for $2,000. They clean the resorts up real quick after storms, looked like nothing happened, outside the resort, looked like third world country.

Fed161Wheel of Fortune often awards trips to the Dominican Republic. I wonder if they will continue doing that.

flashguyI finally heard a TV personage (Jesse Watters) wonder about it only being US citizens who are getting ill and dying. I've been wondering that for some time.

I wish they would do an on location show with Sajak and we would be rid of that annoying program. They should have yanked that show off the air with Monty Hall and The View.

jimmy123xI was just in the DR less than 2 weeks ago. La Romania, Punta Cana, Samana, and Puerto Plata (ran a yacht back) was in DR for about 5 days. I didn't have any issues. Seems like a lot of the issues are emanating from the drinks in the mini bar being poisoned. But, who knows.

The DR at the ER said PR was getting bad PR because of the the DR.
That should clear up the matter.
Is Col. Flagg hanging around down there?

Yeah, stay home. Or in the US.
My grandson was just in Mexico. Spent the last 3 days with Montzuma's revenge. Serves him right for going there. But he's got this uncontrollable urge to eat at strange restaurants. He's 19 now, but for his 18th Bday he wanted everyone to go to a Japanese place. They had a Hari-kari guy banging a big knife around. I couldn't leave without making a scene. But my wife was wondering why I was strangely silent. I'd just decided I'd be good, but never again. They like to experience different things. He and my DIL decided, I went along that time, the last time.
There are places less than 2 miles away. I'll confine my adventures to the city where I live, mostly. Guess my intestines are immune to the local bugs. They can do what they want, because I will.

flashguyrburg, I don't eat anything I don't know what is, and 3/4 of what I do know. I am not an "adventurous eater" and stick to the few dozen foods that I know and like. On trips to unusual places I pack a jar of peanut butter in my luggage.

PASigI don't get how people can go to some shithole like the DR and sit in a fancy resort and be wined and dined while 100 yards away it's shacks and extreme poverty and people who barely have enough to eat. It's just strange to me.

Dominican Health Official Calls Reports of Tourist Deaths ‘Fake News’: ‘It’s All a Hysteria’
As reports of illnesses and deaths continue, the island nation says that there is nothing for tourists to be concerned about ...

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
