I'm certainly no lawyer but I would have to agree, especially in my shit state of NY where victims have no rights.

I thought Texas had something in the penal code about booby traps.

I'm not a lawyer but I imagine two things would have to happen.
1)The criminal has to get hurt, which I did not witness in the video.
2)The criminal has to turn themselves in rather than ride out the injuries.
I'm ok w/ it but I'm not a judge or jury. Today's society wants less law enforcement. This is a consequence.
If the left wants to make criminals safe, stick them in jail and leave them there.

I think summary execution is perfectly appropriate for all thieves. The world would be a much better place and it wouldn't take more than a few executions to clean things up.

Okay, my Engineer Head is kicking in, combined with some Rube-Goldberg logic and Saturday morning cartoon humor.

Suppose you wanted to create a flash-bang for your truck, but without the explosion so as to avoid accusations related to explosives.

I'm thinking a simple strobe light on a short on-cycle would give the flash portion. I'm not sure about a "recorded bang" through a speaker mechanism, though. Maybe a mechanism that presses the button on one of those canned air horn devices? It's not so much of a "bang," but surely would be some irritating noise.

Both are non-contact devices, so there's no force-related injury to the perp.

Or would such a setup still be considered a booby trap?

God bless America.

Not in my opinion. Park your truck in a sketchy area of West Virginia set up a camera and we will wait for the result. Perhaps if you refined it you could get a patent and get rich. The car alarms we have are useless. Something above 140 decibels would be good. Look forward to seeing you on Shark Tank.

No, it was a 12-gauge shell without shot. I Googled and found the 12 gauge flashbangs advertised at 170 to 180 dB (oddly high)

I looked at that site and they say to use the Popper shells in their alert devices. I'm guessing the Flash-Bang shells are either too violent or expel a projectile for use in the alert devices.
