You guys know I like motorcycles. For the past couple months I have been watching the price slowly drop on what looks to be a S2R1000 though the listing doesn’t call it a S2R variant of the Monster it just calls it a 1000cc monster.

I have owned SV650s (just sold a first gen SV650) and currently own its bigger brother the SV1000. The SV is IMO the Japanese version of the Ducati Monster.

Other than being a rolling work of art and a bike I have always wanted will the Ducati be THAT different from a SV1000? Bring air/oil cooled it should be slightly less maintenance but then again it’s Italian so maybe that’s a silly way of thinking.

I don’t need it but man I want it so bad. This is in my opinion one of if not the best looking naked bike ever made. That red trellis frame, white wheels and racing stripe are just perfect.

I’ve never owned a Ducati. As I get older I find their sportbikes less and less tempting. The newer Monsters do nothing for me but this old Monster is tempting.

Dry Clutch, Desmo and Single-Sided Swingarm...And bonus points for of the Termignoni Exhaust! I'm pretty sure the Marchesini Rims and the white stripe on the tank make it an S2R. Yes, it will be THAT different from an SV1000! Cool

As a fellow rider I can tell you that you need that motorcycle.

Why I don't know, but you need it.

It's my humble obligation to NOT talk you out of that one. Razz

I'm not really sure, but the answer may just be "Ducati Monster." Big Grin

You KNOW that you are not going to get a restful night’s sleep until that engineering and design marvel is in your garage.

Get it now without thinking too much about.

If you experience buyer’s remorse, you can always sell it.

You’re welcome!

I'll make a feeble attempt to stop you.
Have you considered the cost of the valve job?
What is its history? Mileage and has it been abused?

Always liked the Monster, but can you do the Desmo work DIY when it needs it? Pretty sure that's not a cheap service at the dealer. Maybe you get some free biscotti while you wait. Razz

Talk you out of it? Well....

The white wheels look a little feminine.

The trendy holes in the clutch cover allow dirt and water ingress.

Ducati = $$$$ upkeep.

Prolly be fun to ride though.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

It has "cat" in the name.

In the Northern tier, the best time to offer on a motorcycle is late Fall.

Get it, ride it, get the itch out of your system to have one, it's the only way you'll be able to sleep now that it's on your mind, so it's a health conscious decision.

Oh wait, yeah don't get it, it's red and cops will see you coming easier!

"Need" has no part in this thought process. It does not even belong, nor should it be considered, in your stream of consciousness.

Only negative is people like to steal it.

It is a prime example of the expression of where Ride it like you stole it came from.

There are three options to consider.
1 Buy it and love it.
2 Procrastinate until someone else buys it
3 Buy it and not like it. Sell it.

This. Riding is a blast, but not worth the high risk of permanent consequences. Just driving to work in my truck is risky enough, and I need to get home to the family safely. If anything over 2 wheels wasn't allowed on the road, I'd get one in a heartbeat.

Ducks are like Italian women... Beautiful. Sexy.
But high maintenance. And... the engine sound is very cool. And I have some experience, after living in Italy for 3 years. The local cops even let me briefly ride their Guzzi Police bike once!
