I wear a minimalist fanny pack when I'm on the bike. I don't wear the full spandex and jersey, and I cant bring myself to go on a long ride without certain things, so I need storage. I don't regularly carry a gun on the ride but I have and the fanny pack helped.

Remote, but possible: if you have to go mano a mano with somebody, that looks like a great grab handle to be pinned or thrown to the ground with. This has happened to police wearing Sam Browne belts. A "breakaway " mechanism could be put on the strap.
