That would depend, partly, on which side of the Atlantic they live...
A "fanny" in the US is quite different from a "fanny" in Britain (as well as most former British territories). Though located nearby, at least on 50% of the population.

PykerI have a Maxpedition Fatboy, a fanny pack, and a Walmart Chinesium shoulder sling bag. All are useful in different situations.

odinIf I wear one, it's around the waist.
Yeah, I have a "fanny" pack that I wear to the gym. Nice size to hold my truck keys, wife's inhaler, diabetes meds, music, and a Kimber Micro 9 with 2 mags..... I'm 73 so I don't look out of place!

This thread is silly.

Urban "youths" do it too, also for carrying guns, or to look like they may be packing. Typically in designer print like Gucci or LV.
I think it started around the time skinny jeans became a thing right after baggy pants went out.

parabellumYou guys need to get out more. Lots of people do this. All kinds of people. Not just "urban youths" or thugs or whomever. It has nothing to do with pants fashion. Men routinely wear packs these days.
Decades ago, this was considered effeminate. Decades.
I'll say it again- this is a damn silly thread. It sounds like some of you have been locked in a closet in your house for a few years.

So, what you're saying is I'm "In style" w/ my fanny pack? No wonder I'm getting all these looks.

Or it's my black socks in sandals.
I'm back baby!
I bet I look fabulous too.

pedropcolaI just watched an episode of Ted Lasso. One of the characters, Jaime, was doing just this. I don’t do it like I stated earlier because I don’t like fanny packs but the variation that is the sling pack is fantastic. In the end though they are pretty close. Gotta agree it’s hard to understand some of the disdain. On the other hand I remember getting railed in a bike thread for wearing a chest pack. Apparently “real” bikers won’t wear those. Lol
Wear what works for you.

BassamaticShoot, I have a number of packs like that. I have the exact ones pictured back on page one. I use them when hunting or even mountain fishing (sadly that is getting harder for me to do) but the hunting I still do. During muzzleloader season you pretty much have to have one to carry all your crap.

corsairWearing a lumbar pack, across your chest has been 'a thing' off & on, for several decades now. Metro-urban fashion has made it a constant accessory for both M & F. Women wearing fanny packs as hip-purses for concerts have been a constant for over a decade, look at any pic from Electric Daisy, Cochella, Wagon Wheel, etc....
Over-the-top EDC bags the last 20-years have been built around cross-chest sling bag styles. Maxpedition built its business on this method of carry and variations of.

Ryanp225I've noticed sling packs are a lot more common to see.
I think they are useful but prefer the utility of a standard backpack.
I do have a Maxpedition Versipack that I use as a range bag. It's perfect for everything you'd need to lug to different stages of a pistol competition.

YellowJacketMostly carried by guys wearing athletic pants, sweatpants, joggers, or other so-called "athleisure." Pants aren't sturdy enough or have pockets enough to carry wallet, keys, phone, etc. So they need a pack.

VBVAGUYI recently purchased this 5.11 LV10 Sling bag. 5.11 usually has a nice sale during the holidays and July 4th is coming up. God Bless

NOCkidWhen I hear the term fanny pack it always reminds me of a conversation I overheard between an American Athletic Trainer and a Physical Therapist from New Zealand.
The therapist asked the trainer for suggestions for carrying incidentals on the field. The trainer offered to give her a fanny pack, at which point she gave him an odd stare. That's when the trainer and I learned that the term fanny is synonymous with vagina in current and former UK nations.

Blume9mmI've had one of the sling packs for years... in fact it was back when I was a Ruger pistol fan and I sewed a uncle mikes holster in it for one of my P95s... I still have it but have not used it in years... I carry all my crap either in my pockets or on my belt.
