Got into a 'discussion' with a liberal friend this morning, got me thinking, what are the 'core differences' between us?

At the end of the day, Minnesota politics come down to:

Republicans-
- Don't mess with my guns
- Stop importing folks from other countries
- Lower my taxes
- Strong Military Defense
- Stop shoving your PC/White Guilt nonsense down my throat
- Don't mess with my guns

Dems -
- Ban all Guns
- Come one come all!
- Raise taxes on the "rich". (whatever that means)
- Cut defense spending for social programs
- I feel terrible for being 'white' and will prove my enlightenment
- Ban all the guns.

To add.

I sent him my 'made up' list....his response:

- Gun control (not ban all guns)

- Only the Indians are not immigrants. Just because us whites were first doesn't mean we shouldn't let anyone else in.

- Acknowledge the income inequality and provide help to those who need it.

- Balance defense spending with other national priorities (infrastructure, debt service, education, social needs).

- Acknowledge the advantages whites have enjoyed and strive to level the playing field.
(BUT ... affirmative action is NOT the same as equal opportunity)

"Liberal" or "leftist?"

Liberals, true liberals, are nearly indistinguishable from libertarians--mainly differing on economic policy. Conservatives, these days, are often more libertarian than they are old school right-wingers. Thus: Today's conservatives are actually more liberal than either old school right-wingers or today's leftists.

Leftists, which many people are finally beginning to distinguish from liberals, are really closer to fascists than they are to liberals.

What you're describing under "Dems" is more leftists than liberals.

Why do people opposed to their beliefs wish to continue to give leftists the cover of liberalism? I don't get it.

Just as I don't get people continuing to refer to the dominant media as the "mainstream media," when there is nothing "mainstream" about it at all.

Much more simple distinction:

Republicans believe, trust in and will defend The Constitution.

Democrats spit/walk on the Constitution and will interpret it in any manner so long as the Constitution agrees with their views or benefits them.

The most basic level?

Individualism versus collectivism.

Everything flows from there.

Liberals: Somehow, we can fix your problems by giving you those people's money.

Conservatives: Gotta go to work, save, study, achieve and somehow it'll be better.

If you go to the top level it is simply government control vs individual control (read responsibility) of your lives.
This is truly the "core" nothing else.
Sure if your drill down then you can pile on issues and many pick a side based solely on issue > true.
I don't think most people even consider the true core difference but rely on down level issues to form their opinion.

Republicans advocate for:
Freedom & Responsibility

Democrats are proponents of:
Restricting anything they don't like, not my fault, someone else will pay for it.

Facts vs. Feelings
Adults vs. Children
Taxpayer vs. EBT

Republicans would function very successfully in high-trust societies but Democrats cause those same societies to be become low-trust. *Switzerland vs. South Africa

There are so many degrees between Leftist Dems and Right Wing Reps it's difficult to put them all in two boxes. I would say as a rule Leftist Dems are drawn to and advocate the trespass of the individual for the sake of the collective. They also believe in collective association (collective guilt and collective virtue) and inter-generational collective condemnation. Combined with rejection of due process and true equality, they move the ball toward genocide. Leftist Dems promote the idea that no one owns their produce individually nor should they have the means to defend themselves by state of the art means. They believe in a caste system of elites, their facilitators, their enforcers and the masses. They believe the innocent must submit to the guilty. And lastly, to pound the square peg of Leftism into the round hole of the American principle of individual liberty, true equality and justice for all, they embrace deception, hypocrisy and violence.

As a rule, Right Wing Reps. believe in the opposite of those things stated above. The mistake they made years, decades ago was in trying to preserve a righteous (generally) culture from the glacially creeping move toward Leftism and moral decay, they used the force of gov't to legislate a moral code rather than focus of teaching the young the difference between right and wrong and affecting the culture in the future. They did not develop the logical sequences that explain the principles of liberty to the young. They allowed Leftists to teach the young instead. They dropped the ball and now we have a revolution on our hands.

You forgot one of the biggest foundational differences.

Republicans: ALL life is precious

Liberals/Leftists: You can kill your 2-year old if he or she or it didn't turn out the way you liked [sarcasm added for emphasis].

"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Republicans -

Have no spine, no conviction, and nothing they truly believe in. They are interested in staying in power, and have never hesitated to roll over or sell out the people who voted for them. Don't confuse conservative with Republican, and don't confuse Trump with a Republican either. They have finally started to support him lately but many hate him and want him out too.

Democrats -

Have true beliefs that they will stop at nothing to advance. No moral or ethical concerns will slow them down. They want control over everything, the way you think, the way you live. They believe they are superior beings so it's their job to suppress and control the ignorant masses.

They're both all for freedom, freedom to do the things they like, and freedom from the things they don't like, enforced with government guns. The main difference is what those freedoms are to each side.

The problem with many Republican politicians is that they get polluted by political power. They may go into office with Republican principles, but once in power something about holding the levers of changes them and after a while “What we really need isn’t small government, it is right thinking people like me holding the levers of power.” That malady weakens the message.

The GDCs are much more consistent and on message, which is a shame because their message sucks. Frown

The antics from the leftest's have even mucked up what that truly means.

Yet it's most ironic, is that "we" (on the right) typically are "collective" on our being of the same mindset about "doing unto others, and treating all with equal respect (and expecting same, and not tolerating those who won't).

And the "other side", while espousing their "groupthink" and "social sameness" are individually selfish and often narcissistic and truly only give a shit about the individual, (them being the most important/worthy individual).

In Illinois, this describes conservatives, not Republicans. In my view, there's no substantive difference between Democrats and Republicans, just a matter of degree. Republicans are mostly a "lite" version of Democrats

Republicans would be:

- Don't mess with my guns too much
- Stop importing too many folks from other countries
- Lower don't raise my taxes as much as the Dems are proposing
- Strong Military Defense don't cut military spending as much as the Dems are proposing
- Stop shoving your PC/White Guilt nonsense down my throat too much
- Don't mess with my guns too much
