My wife and I drink mostly Bourbon. We do also drink Scotch from time to time.
We came across a good deal on a Balvenie Portwood 21 Year Scotch but are not sure if we want to spend the money, it's over $100 dollars a bottle.
We do like Bourbons and Scotch's finished in Port wood barrels just not sure about this one.

Have any of our Sig Forum family tried it and if so what did you think.

I am doing some research with the online reviews but I would love some feedback on someone here who has had the opportunity to try it.

Thank You

I drink Balvenie occasionally, I will buy a bottle of the 12 YO Doublewood a couple of times a year. I like it a lot, very drinkable. But a 21 yo? A bit rich for my blood, that is a $250 bottle, minimum. If you can get it for a little over 100 bucks, that is a deal.

Go ahead and get it, if you don't like the taste I'll be happy to come over and drink it for you!

haven't had that particular Scotch but, none of the Balvenie scotch that I've had has ever been bad.

If you can get it for a hundred it's a steal, everywhere I've seen it the bottle it's close to $300

+1 on the Doublewood - one of my favourites.

Never had the 21 YO but had a couple of others from Balvenie and they are all good.

If you can afford it go for it!

Never tried that brand. But, I will say every time I've spent extra for an older bottle it hasn't been worth it for me.

I have not had the 21-year (only the 12-year and 15-year) and am very fond of Balvenie.

As mentioned, it’s pricey. Around here, the 12-year goes for $70; $300 for the 21-year. If you can get the 21-year near $100, you should get a case of it.

I've had Bavenie before. Not sure if it was 25 year old. I kind of doubt it. But it's a great Scotch. It's not the peaty kind. The taste was less sharper than Macallan, more subdued.

Generous Karma - thank you................

Same as above - my go-to is the double-wood. Have never found a 21-yr old near my price point!

Balvenie 15 is my fav. It's been a while since I treated myself to one, but it was north of $80/bottle then. $100 for a 21 y/o sounds like you can't go wrong.

Balvenie Caribbean Cask is one of my favorite Scotches. I do very much like the 21 year Portwood as well. In general Balvenie is probably just behind Glenmorangie as my favorite single malt Scotch. If I could get 21 year Balvenie Portwood for between $100-$125, I’d buy a case.

It's pretty good, but I would find a bar or restaurant to try it first. The port notes are there, but they're less intense than Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. If I was going to spend that much on a Port Scotch, I'd save some money and buy the Dalmore Port Wood Reserve.

Thank you everyone for the help.
I double checked with my wife last night on the price. The liquor store has it at $88 dollars off their regular price.
That would make the sale price around $185 to $190.
Again thanks everyone

Which store is that if you don't mind I was in ABC yesterday and it's $285 there...

Thanks, I tried finding a local bar and the closest one that has the Balvenie and wants to much for a sample to make it worth the trip.

We purchased the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban on a recommendation from goose5 and have been very happy with it.

Our local ABC has a bottle of the Dalmore Port Wood Reserve for around $100 dollars, it that a good price for this Scotch?
The most we have ever paid for a bottle of Scotch was around $120 dollars and it was for the Glenfiddich Single Malt 18 Year Scotch.

Dalmore is a great scotch, one of my favorites, remember when it was $40 to $50 a bottle, they have gone up significantly in price over the years.

Dalmore Cigar Malt goes well with a nice Cuban

It is. I can find it around my area in between $90-100 and would absolutely buy it over a bottle of Macallan 12 that's now the same price (the original not Double Cask).

While not entirely his fault, one that that Trump did that pissed me off was the tariff on Scotch to retaliate for something the EU did. Cigar Malt Reserve is one of my favorites, but it's up to $189 - $200 now.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 is my second favorite and the oldest age I regularly buy. That used to be Lagavulin 16, but I've moved away from the heavy peat monsters lately. My favorite is a toss-up between Highland Park 12 and Talisker 10. Both are peated, but nicely balanced.

Balvenie is one of my favorites. If I could score a 21 for that price, I'd get all I could.

I like the Quinta Ruban as well. Not as much as Nectar D’Or, but they’re both excellent in different ways. That’s part of why I like Glenmorangie so much, and why Dr. Bill is a personal hero of mine. They have an amazing breadth and depth to their Scotch offerings, and have an expression for any of my Scotch related desires.
