Thanks for the quick reply and test ride offer! I’m in Va Bch currently, still working on spring break plans with the kids for April.
I have a 200? Gary Fischer montare 29-er I could use as a donor for a build if I want to go that route. I’m thinking 750w would be plenty. I’d use it as a fair weather commuter, I’m only 5 miles from work. I’m also interested in a full off-road rig as we are looking at rural properties for camping, shooting, etc.

Two questions, stickman:

1: When are you getting the flux capacitor?
2: What happens when you hit 88 miles per hour?

Well not exactly. Big Grin

A Giant Anthem X29 I already had donated many of the parts that have been upgraded such as the Shimano front brakes and complete front wheel & Maxxis tire. The Anthem is out of commission as it waits for a lower suspension D ring to come from Amsterdam to replace the cracked D ring it has currently. The Anthem will be out of commission for 2-3 months easily. I might as well put those parts to use since they are much better than what is on the Marin Pine Mountain e-bike currently.

I didn’t have to replace the rear brake it just needed some fine tuning. I’m not too worried about a software upgrade since the build still as a lot of power yet to be used due to the underpowered battery and the max my controller can handle.

But yeah, I am going to buy a MUCH stronger battery very soon. Since I’ll have a spare battery I might as well build up another e-bike. Big Grin. My son has more or less claimed the current ebike build as his own so it would be nice to build another one and be able to keep up with him.

The kit I bought has gone up $120 since I purchased mine but compared to other ebikes in a bike store it’s still a pretty good deal and vastly outperforms all but the extremely expensive ebikes on the market right now. It’s actually faster than those but less offroad capable.

A different battery that mounts to the tubes and is shaped like a triangle would most likely solve my mount issues and afford more off road capability. I’m also considering a rear mounted battery on a rack.

I finally felt comfortable enough to try a wheelie with a bit of assist from the electric motor. It was a lot of fun! Big Grin

Dangit… I suppose you were right tarortodd, I have added an application/ data tracker.

The farkles have been accumulating…. Big Grin

Those not familiar with the term:

Farkle (n): A modification to a motorcycle that satisfies the following criteria: creates “bling,” serves a purpose (the usefulness of which is in the eyes of the farkler) and is most likely expensive. Often used among touring riders to denote or convey status amongst their peers.

Now I’m not just tossing digital crap onto this bike for the hell of it. This little device will provide amperage use and max amps under full throttle which will give me an idea of how much more top speed and power I can expect to get out of this build before I spend the $$$ on a more powerful battery. For $35 it’s an inexpensive device that provides some very valuable data.

Vthoky, here is your flux capacitor Big Grin Its starting to look cluttered and almost a like the DeLorean from Back to the Future with all the expose cables.

Zip ties are my friend. Smile Big Grin

HRK, how are you imbedding that YouTube video?

This is a very short video shot in a nearby park on a section of road that is closed off so we don’t have to worry about cars. My son is riding the Marin Ebike. I love the sound it makes as he rides by.

Not sure how to imbed videos anymore.

https://youtu.be/bQkxibeWE30

He is a very cautious kid and thankfully isn’t too interested in attempting high speed full power runs.

The Maxxis knobbie tire slowed down my max speed. Either that or the 2000w speed runs are hurting my 1000w rated battery. Frown I have a 27.5 slick tire off another bike I might swap on to see if I can get back to 38.6 mph. Big Grin

I rode my electric bike up to my local bike store. It generated a lot of questions from customers in the store. One of the guys who works there and who has sold me LOTS of bikes over the years including my 2022 Scott Spark 970 asked if he could test ride it.

Of course I said yes and let my bike dude test ride the electric Marin Pine mountain in the parking lot. He came back with a HUGE grin on his face and said excitedly “I got it up to 25 mph in the parking lot without even having to pedal! This thing is fun!”. Big Grin

I live 5 minutes away from my local bike shop by car along a mostly 45mph speed limit road. I was able to get back from the bike shop on my ebike in about 7-8 minutes. Big Grin

I will say this, from the experience so far I now wish I had used a bike with a quality front suspension fork with lockout since that would be the best of both worlds. At 30+ mph a hardtail and ridged fork makes for a hell of a bumpy ride. I have plans to build another one similar to the one I built but with a newer frame, front suspension and the better components all around as well as a front wheel drive ebike too.

A lot of people have told me I should start making nice ebike mountain bikes and start selling them locally. The thought is interesting.

I filmed a quick acceleration test to give you an idea on the performance after it’s been ridden around for a few days. I rode it to a nearby park and to my local bike shop before doing this test.

It’s pretty dang quick even when it’s not coming fresh off the battery charger.

Hopefully this video works.

I hear ya HRK!

A wheelie video is coming very soon. This baby sent my flying today.

I had an interesting day that saw me flying over the handle bars of my full suspension Giant Anthem cross country bike.

I had just dialed in the front and rear suspension and replaced a lower D link that was cracked when like a fool I decided to venture off the trail. I finished a very fun trail session and was heading home when I saw a structure someone built in the woods that I wanted to investigate. My suspension was no longer bottoming out and was working pretty damn good so like a fool off I went on what was not even really a trail.

Long story short I hit a hole hidden by leaves and even my 29inch tires and decent front end couldn’t save me and over the bars I flew.

I’m Already feeling a bit sore but I’ll be OK and plan on hitting the trails again tomorrow.

I will be picking up a phone mount and plan on getting a go pro soon so an e-bike wheelie video will DEFINITELY be happening soon. Big Grin

Once I get a go pro you guys will be seeing some very entertaining videos. Big Grin

I put three very speedy miles on my ebike after the spill and might ride again tonight to drain the battery. I have a 27.5 slick wheel I want to put on when the battery is fresh so I can go on another top speed run. The Maxxis tires sound like a damn jacked up truck on the interstate and hum quite a bit. You can hear them in the acceleration video making their obnoxious sound.

I have a feeling a fresh battery and this 27.5 slick will be the ticket to breaking 40 mph. Cool

Oh my goodness this thing is FUN!!!!!!

We had a nice blast of warm air move in late afternoon here in North Carolina so I decided to take advantage of that and go for a night ride.

I am soooooooooo close to breaking 40mph! This was achieved with the help of a nice downhill section of road. Considering the big 29er knobby front tire is still on there and the battery was close to 50% charge (it indicated 50% not too long after I took this pic) this is just incredible.

I am having more fun on this dang electric bicycle than I’ve had the last couple of rides on my Suzuki 1000cc V-twin sport bike. Other than the jacked up truck with big tires humming sound it makes at speed this thing is almost silent.

A full charge and swap to the 27.5 slick from one of my other bikes aught to get me well into 40 mph. Big Grin Big Grin

No I didn’t take this while riding tonight, my dash keeps a “top score” ehh I mean top recorded speed. I briefly saw 40.1 mph on the dash but it didn’t hold the speed long enough for my dash to record a new top speed.

I’m beginning to formulate my plan for e-bike build #2. Big Grin

These things are more fun than a motorcycle! Eek

I have decided on a base to build the elective bike around. A 2021/2022 large frame (same as my current frame) Marin Pine Mountain 1. Build #2 will basically be an updated version of my 2016 Marin Pine Mountain in a very cool shade of blue with an upgraded front suspension (that can be locked out) and MUCH better brakes. Cool

Why choose this bike? A few reasons. First off, just like my current Pine Mountain I like the sturdy full 4130 chromoly frame as it is virtually an indestructible material that will only break if you have one hell of a bad crash and hit a telephone pole at speed. It isn’t realistic to expect any bike to survive something like that but 4130 is stout and I know it is hard to mess up and relatively easy to fix.

The second reason I like this bike for my next build is the RockShox Recon 120mm travel front fork and the quality of the components equipped on this bike relative to its price tag. It offers a lot of bang for your buck.

SPECIFICATIONS:
FRAME Series 2 Double Butted CrMo, 27.5+ Wheels, Boost 141x9mm Open Dropout, 73mm Threaded BB
FORK RockShox Recon RL, 120mm Travel, Compression and Rebound Adjustment, Alloy Tapered Steerer, Solo Air Spring, 110x15mm Boost Spacing, Maxle Stealth, 42mm Offset
REAR SHOCK None
HEADSET FSA Orbit ITA, Sealed Cartridge Bearings, 1 1/8" x 1 1/2”
SHIFTERS MicroShift 1x11 Speed
FRONT DERAILLEUR None
REAR DERAILLEUR Shimano GS Shadow Plus 11-Speed
CRANKSET Marin Forged Alloy 1x11, Hollow Spindle, Direct Mount Steel Forged Narrow-Wide 30T Chainring, Boost Spacing
BOTTOM BRACKET External Sealed Cartridge Bearings
CHAIN KMC X11
CASSETTE SunRace 11-Speed, 11-46T
BRAKES Shimano MT400 Hydraulic Disc, 160mm Rotor
WHEELSET Marin Aluminum Double Wall, 32mm Inner, Pinned Joint, Disc Specific, Tubeless Compatible, Joytech, 141x9mm, 6-Bolt Disc, 32H
TIRES Vee Tire, Flow Snap 29x2.6", Wire Bead
HANDLEBAR Marin Mini-Riser, 6061 Double Butted Aluminum, 28mm Rise, 780mm Width, 6º Up, 10º Back
STEM Marin 3D Forged Alloy, 35mm
GRIPS/BAR TAPE Marin Bearpaw Locking
SEATPOST Marin Alloy Light
SEATCLAMP Marin
SADDLE Marin MTB
INTENDED USE Trail, Adventure, Bike-packing

^^^^ I love that under “Intended use” it lists Adventure. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Look at all those mounts inside the frame’s triangle!!!

My friend who is a BMW master mechanic in Chesapeake Virginia has procured me the PERFECT Base for a petrol/gas to electric motorcycle conversion. Cool

Once I have my 2nd electric bicycle built I am going to build a legit, street legal high voltage monster electric motorcycle! Let the good times roll!

If the future is indeed electric I am amped for the future!

This I want to see. After getting my Tesla and enjoying how much fun it was. I went down the rabbit hole of watching electric bike videos. I can't imagine how much fun they'd be to drive.
