We're expecting our first baby girl in June. We've been in lockdown, probably more aggressively than most, and will probably stay in lockdown well into July or August. Our expenses are really minimal now, and money that would have been spent on maternity or newborn photos are getting diverted to more "nice to have" things. I've got $500-1000 to spend.

No guns, knives, or Sigforum-y stuff. No more jewelry.

Doesn't have to be particularly sentimental. She's not a "stuff" person, she doesn't get attached to things. Hopefully come up along the lines with, "Ah, that was a good idea", or "Oh, that was clever", or "That's nice to have."

A nice framed or photo-printed-on-glass picture of mom and baby? I recently got a framed print, upload the PDF/JPG/etc., pick a frame style and size, and they ship you back the framed print, very easy. Simply Framed was the place I used, although I'm sure there's plenty of competition. The pic-on-glass prints (Masterpix/White Wall/Shutterfly) look like they might work too. Oh, and, Congratulations!

Under usual circumstances, a good idea. But baby isn't due till June.

Gift Cert for a 'Spa Day' w/ massage of her choice. You might even consider making it a couples massage... Wink

Maybe get a 3-D ultrasound or fetal foto or whatever they call them in your area. Like $90 and they give you video and snapshots of the baby that can be pretty cool.

If you're on lockdown and have no discretionary spending, maybe do the above and get a nice takeout dinner and save the rest of your dough.

IMO.

Sorry, should have been more clear. Because of the lockdown, our expenses are really low, and therefore, I can spend a little more money on something nice for the wife.

Leading vote right now is a Pixel 4xl. Her current phone is a Pixel 2, and I'm hearing that she's gonna be spending a ton of time on her phone in the hospital, at home, and taking pictures with it.

Congratulations!

Does she get any more ultrasounds? There was a really cool bracelet/necklace I saw a while ago that engraved your baby’s specific heartrate pattern (I think it was silver). Maybe you could talk to the ultrasound tech and see if they can record a few beats the next visit so It can be translated into a sine wave.
I’ll try and find it if you’re interested. Heartbeatkeepsakes.com was what I was thinking of.

A simple and obvious gift would be a pearl ring or necklace- I believe that’s the precious gem for June, and there are certainly many mother rings and necklaces out there with uniques patterns that it could be set into with room for more...

Also, if she’ll tolerate it, a massage/pedicure and/or a lovely catered dinner. The jewelry she will keep forever. The massage/pedi may help her feel pretty right now, and that is super important when her hormones are nuts and her bod is following new rules. The dinner gets her off her feet (which may be a perfect time for a foot massage Wink

So very happy for you both! Hmm, I see no more jewelry, so scratch the above, best wishes anyway!

Either the phone, for the camera feature, or an actual camera. You will be taking a cubic ton of photos and videos. The photog in me would push for a camera, but the best camera is the one with you, so that's points for the phone (though I know nothing about the image quality of a Pixel)

Second the spa idea, though I am guessing that they are all closed. Research your area for "medical massage" and see if a licensed, legit professional masseuse will do an outcall to your home. Based on what I know from dealing with the Evil Empress, preggos are sore all over.
