I was kind of elected to go there and fix a lithotripter tomorrow
The experience started this evening. I did a job in miami today so I would be here to catch an early flight. I checked in my hotel kind of late so I punched in the closest Popeyes Chicken. Being dark and all, I didn't realize google maps took me to a Popeyes in da hood! I walked in and was met by the counter protected by bullet proof glass. The 4 patrons noticed me, so I didn't back out, but stayed there like a boss. I was armed anyway. I ordered my meal and backed off to the side so I had nobody behind me. The large fellow in front of me was sporting and ankle bracelet. I took a couple of creeper pics and texted them to my wife. She texted back, get out of there. I did after I got my chicken! This is going to be a good week! Port Au Prince!

You went to Miami and had Popeyes?

Next time, do Versailles (open 24 hrs) or if you want fast food chicken, check out Pollo Tropical. Best damn chicken in the land (and yes, that includes Chick-fil-A)

Hope all your shots are up to date.
You may notice, from the air, a huge contrast between the DR and Haiti; verdant triple canopy jungle vs a mudslide moonscape.
Safe return.

Haiti would make an excellent bombing range.

Last time I was in Haiti, it was a third world shithole. I imagine nothing has changed since '91-'93.

Be careful. Bon chance!

I did not know what a lithotripter is, so I used google.

Such pessimists! Don't you recall the Clinton Foundation raised millions for Haiti? Smile

Have fun in Haiti. I'm sure you'll be safe and avoid any major problems. Sounds like an adventure. Dare I google "lithotripter?"

I'm surprised Haiti has a lithotripter. We ain't got one within a hundred miles of Jerkwater. And nobody who knows how to play one, either.

PT is decent for Cuban fast food. But Versailles!?!?! LOVE THAT PLACE. Went there in July last year on the way back from camping in the Keys. Oh my- VERY good Cuban food. My kids who never seem to care about anything but the VOLUME of food available still talk about it. If we happen to go an hour south of Tallahassee, they joke about going ahead to Miami for Cuban.

So yes, good idea for next time- reasonable $ too.

Tommydogg, be safe man!

I had to google it. I first thought it had something to do with printing.

I'm currently at the Marriott Hotel compound. I had the problem diagnosed and repaired in minutes, a loose pump head on a pump that sucks air bubbles out of the water. Sound travels better through water than air. They have a donated Lithotripter in a newer hospital that was built after the earthquake. The machine was refurbed before it was sent here and surprisingly it looked in much better shape than the one I worked on in Miami yesterday. Not know what I was going to run into, I booked a late flight out tomorrow, so I will be hanging out here at the compound! I tried to get an earlier flight but no joy. A doctor picked me up at the airport and drove me in. I attracted a whole lot of attention along the way to the hospital everytime we stopped in traffic. With a long beard, I look like white devil! I'm pretty sure we anchored here and had liberty call in the 80s when I was on the Iowa. It has not changed. I did see a huge pig eating from a pile of garbage on the side of a city street. Typical.

So President Trump wasn't wrong about his assessment of some countries lacking cultural and societal norms that cause them to resemble a latrine?
