I don't get this one. How in the world does this make sense? I guess it's better than nothing in the commie states that don't allow CCW. I don't want the exposure of injuring a bad guy who can later sue me. I don't want the cops to hear anyone's side of the story other than my own. What happens when the Byrna doesn't work? Hell, what happens if it does work and you get away, only to find yourself arrested on some kind of assault charges?

Coworker bought one for home defense. (don't get it, he owns two handguns and a rifle) Having seen so many police videos of pepper balls and less lethal 40mm rounds doing nothing, I wouldn't put much faith in it.

Never heard of Byrna until this thread. Looked it up and 5 seconds is all I needed. Q

For those who don’t know, it’s a CO2 powered pepperball gun. Less than lethal. Because I no longer am arresting people I have no need for LTL force option. And you better have a backup plan if or when pain compliance doesn’t work. If I pull my gun it’s out to do one thing. I’m not ever gonna pepperball someone and then leave as a citizen. I can only think it’s a marketing option for people who don’t want to be forced to kill someone or live in a state where they can’t carry a real gun "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. Heinlein “You may beat me, but you will never win.” sigmonkey-2020 “A single round of buckshot to the torso almost always results in an immediate change of behavior.” Chris Baker

The first thing I think when I hear that someone has a pepperball gun is that they're a felon and can't have a real gun. We find them frequently in druggie cars, and I have a long story about a dude at my church who was wanting to help with "security" who I ended up finding out is a felon after he told me he would bring his pepperball gun. I've got no problem with OC spray as a less-lethal alternative, but in my experience the pepperball version is less effective, and not something I'd want to rely on, especially as a standalone tool.

So let me ask: What would you do if someone pointed this thing towards you in a real-life experience? Me: I would be holding and fully discharged 9mm in my hand. Just completely stupid!

I see the commercials for it on Newsmax at work. If you're pulling a 'gun' for a threat, wouldn't you use a real gun? What's the LE response for discharging something that looks like a gun at a threat, if not a firearm? The Enemy's gate is down.

Answer: 17 rounds of Glock back at you!

I didn't necessarily mean discharging at an officer. But, in general. If you discharge a firearm at a threat, there's an LE response. How does something like this compare? Or is it the same as spraying someone with mace/pepper spray? The Enemy's gate is down.

I swear I had something for this |
It's an age restricted video, but here's one of Kentucky Ballistics testing several rounds on Houston Jones (with medical people standing by off screen): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R03WoBuZPw Can't embed because of the age restriction, but these things look like they hurt quite a bit. It wouldn't stop anyone on PCP, but it would make a normal person rethink things (especially the pepper spray balls). The other drawback is they use CO2 canisters so you could get stuck reloading more ammo AND a CO2 cartridge to fire them. It's not a toy, but if I'm in that situation just give me a gun.

Oh, I was responding from the Leo point of view, had someone pointed it at them.

It would be considered an Aggravated Assault since a weapon was used.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should |
I suspect police use things like this only when they have backup with a real gun. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

In my state, if you used it for legitimate defensive purposes you'd probably be fine. But if you used it illegally for intimidation, you could possibly get hit with the aggravated felony charge if the victim reasonably believed it was a deadly weapon.

It’s a gimmick. A gimmick that the company purchased endorsements from Dan Bongino, Sean Hannity and others to attempt to ensure success. It is a horrible, bordering on irresponsible, idea to promote. But, the majority of the people that will buy them have a 0.0004 percent chance of needing them. It also reminds me of the onslaught of advertisements on radio for MANTISX!!!!!! Hannity rattles off the list of “used by” but the weird part is no one I know in those organizations have ever heard of those organizations using them. USASOCis a relatively small outfit. One of the guys that works for me was in 5th group and is currently the 20th group schoolhouse NCOIC. Never heard of it being used. They don’t use it at Camp Pendleton or Camp LeJeune or Parris Island. And top shooters in the competition world dont use them. Well, until they do. And then their social media is lit up with how much better a shooter that MANTISX!!!!!!! Made them.

No More Mr. Nice Guy |
I'm guessing a major target market is women. I've heard from very many women that they don't think they could kill someone. A few men, too, have said this. Of course they don't understand that real life shtf is nothing like tv portrays it. The perp is not like them, and is a malicious violent person who wants to cause harm. They also don't understand that the goal is to stop the threat, not kill. They don't understand that most likely they will only have to point a gun to stop the threat, but if they do shoot then the chances are the perp survives. So they think using something Nice like a pepperball makes them a more moral humanitarian. They should stick with a pepper spray, which is much more easily carried.

They're not even that small to make concealed carry very practical. It seems like a very bad idea in every way. They must have good financing to get all the radio host endorsements they got. How about the one from Bill O'Reilly? LOL. That man knows less about guns and lethal force than my mother in-law. "Oh, Bill O'Reilly said it's good? I have to have one." Sheesh.

I have a friend that keeps one on his sail boat when traveling across state waters/borders where he cannot CCW. Might be fun for outdoor rodent and snake control (kinetic rounds) if you live in a thickly settled area where you cant discharge a firearm or pellet gun.
