JFK wanted to invade Cuba, to appease our Military. Robert Kennedy insisted that JFK negotiate with Khrushchev. I would think RFK was the hero in this event.
BTW, I was with my reserve unit ready to board a train to Homestead AFB in preparation for the Cuban invasion, when it was called off.
