The Road goes on forever

Well I will make this short. Went to get my physical in December and doctor said everything looks good see you next year. I stopped him and asked since I lost my brother in late 2015 to a heart attack should I get a CT scan and he said yes and ordered it. Well I am now sitting in the hospital awaiting one of two procedures with the best being pacement of a stent in my main left vent and if that is not successful the other is open heart surgery. Come to find out the CT scan may have saved my life. The doctor said left main is 100% blocked and was surprised that I have no symptoms. I hope the stent is succesful as my parent have lost 3 out of 4 kids, two in the last 18 months. However always look on the bright side as the Nurses here are great and good looking. Guess I'd lied about making it short but to everyone that can afford the $70.00 for a calcium scan of their heart I suggest it may be something to seriously consider. Enjoy your day!

Glad you caught it in time and pushed for the test.

Last year my dad had some chest pain. Went to the hospital and and they did some tests and it all showed ok. I pushed for him and my mom to insist they do a angiogram. That test showed major blocked and a week later he had triple bypass surgery. Today he's fine with no issues from the surgery.

Doctors are good but people need to take part in their own health care. Glad you pushed for the test and I hope everything turns out fine.

Doc ought not to have been surprised.

Being asymptomatic is not all that rare. I offer myself as another example.

Be happy! There is life after stents! And it's great!

Thanks,

See what happens when you go see a doctor? They just make up things to make some money off you.

That was what my BIL used to say and he lived his belief. Paid for health insurance but never used it until several years after retirement. He was having stomach pains that wouldn't go away. no doctor would take him as he literally had no medical history. He died a few short years after that; I think from stomach cancer.

I'm glad they caught yours in time. Good thinking on your part.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." My last doctor heard something she didn't like. Did an EKG. Saw something she didn't like. Scheduled a heart echo.

Nothing found.

Two-three years later. New doc. I called him because I was experiencing heart-attack-like symptoms. He insisted I go into emergency. "But, doc: I work out up to five-times-a-week, incl. high-intensity interval training." He told me about a mid-30s patient he had who played pick-up ice hockey who was completely asymptomatic that had an 80% blockage of the widow-maker artery.

I went in. After an overnight stay for observation, had a heart-echo stress test.

Luckily: It was just a panic attack. (Overwork, stress, etc.)

Glad you caught it in time.
