I'd been driving an F-150 Crew ('05) and it was time to trade last Fall. I swore off the Gov't Motors stuff when all that bailout happened, but then trying to find a reasonably equipped F-150 in my neighborhood seemed to be impossible. I decided I'd get a Silverado 1500 Crew 4WD, so started looking. Prices were shocking! I ended up backing off and finding a used '15 4WD with 20,XXX miles for mid-20's price, passed over the Denali (heard you can't buy one with 4WD?), the Z71 package (rides better without it anyhow) and the LTZ and went with a well equipped LT. Still has the booty warmers, rear sliding windows, dual zone a/c controls, the bigger display, etc. I can add in some leather seats for just North of 1K, and have a truck with almost the same setup for way less. I did spray in a LineX liner, and might have a 2.5" lift on it, but hey, I'da done that to whatever I bought anyhow. ________________________________________________ "You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. I rented a brand new Chevy pickup frpm U Haul last year and even though it was the bare bones model I can't begin to tell you how impressed I was with the way it drove, handled and how quiet it was.

Not really flashy, but I enjoy my 1978 Ford F150 with 300-6 and the somewhat rare 3+1 OD tranny. And I can work on the sonofabitch if something quits on me. No computer, gets real hot roll all the windows down, open the Billy Carter back window, shit. It's a pisscutter and all the Mexicans wave at me, too.

My 2500 Denali HD is 4WD although the only indicator (other than mechanical of course) is the knob on the dash. I'm not sure is 1500 Denalis are the same. NRA Life Patron

My new truck is a 1995 2500, my medium aged truck is a 1974 F250, and my old truck is a 1935 Ford. Every time I drive the 1995, I think "Wow, air conditioning. I'm in high cotton." You'll never see me dropping that much coin on a truck. I don't think I could, even if I could. Too old to run, too mean to quit! |
My first truck, as an adult, was a 1987 Dodge Dakota, with a "snow plow" package. Had everything, 4 WD, AC, automatic tranny, etc etc etc Had been sitting on the lot for quite a while, the guy that special ordered it decided he didn't want it. AIR, I paid about $17K, out the door. Loved that truck. Checked out the prices for some new trucks a couple days ago. Should have taken my nitro-glycerine pills! Currently have a 2000 Silverado. Has just over 114K miles on it. Had 35K on it when I bought it. Runs great, does not look all that good, but beats hell out of blowing another $50K on a new one. The 4WD sucks, as it does not have limited slip differential, so if any one of the wheels slip/spin the other wheels quit driving. Would love to have a new one, but at those prices it would also involve a divorce, and I am too damned old to start that process. I've been driving trucks for the 15 years I have been licensed to drive. 2 chevy trucks are in my driveway. My '11 1500 with 126k on her. Runs like a dream. Sticker was almost 50k I paid 36k. My work truck is an '06 2500. 257k on the clock and other than being a bare bones work truck spec with a blown speaker the truck runs like a dream. My company switched from ford to chevy in '04 due to cost of ownership and maintenance. We have 1 ford bought in '10 that was a hell of a deal to purchase. In the last 3 years it has cost more in replacement pets than the rest of the fleet combined. The fleet is currently at 8 '2500 series trucks mine being the oldest, the newest being a '17. We don't sell or trade the trucks as they will see between 50-100k miles a year. They are great trucks.

Ha, maybe you and I were twins separated at birth. My newer truck is a 85 Chevy 3/4 ton, yep, A/C equipped and add-on cruise control. Purty suave' as they say. My old one is a 62 half ton Ford with the "fridge bed", a throw back solution after the unibody bed didn't work so good. Like you said, if I had the bucks, I would probably not pay the ridicumous prices they are asking for anything new.

That 2000 Silverado ought to have an Eaton G80 automatic locking rear diff. Mine went to 273k miles and I still got over 5 grand for it. My current truck is a 2009 Z71 LTZ with 123k on it. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.
