My daughter uses my car and lost the key/FOB she uses though I still have mine. Car is 2004 Honda Accord EX.

Besides Honda dealer is there anywhere else that one can go to get full functioning replacement? Local locksmith maybe?

Thanks for any advice.

Check your local Ace Hardware store. They are usually much more cost-effective than the Honda dealer.

I doubt they could do a fob. A key probably. Not a fob unless I am missing something.

Order a fob online and find a locksmith local to you. A lot of them can program it and they usually charge considerable less than a dealership.

If you are friends with a used car dealership check there. They often have a vendor that comes around and takes care of their needs in that department.

I do remember seeing such at local Ace hardware after V-Tail suggested that. I found this link below too.

It might vary by location. I have a bunch of Ace Hardware stores as customers for my business (not key-related), so I am in and out of these stores regularly. Every Ace Hardware store that I have been in, does smart keys and fobs.

Ace does support the make / model / year of OP's car.

Does this not mean there's a key fob out there somewhere that will open and run your car?

Every single one I've been to does, BUT, they will only program keys and fobs they sell. You can not bring one in and get them to program it, you have to buy it there. So, no cheaping out and buying one on Amazon, even a factory part....

Another thought -- check the owners' manual. Some manuals document the procedure for do-it-yourself programming. I don't know whether Honda discloses the procedure, but if they do, then you could find a smart key / fob source with an online search.

Yeah, it's somewhere in the house supposedly but she can't find it. She lost it here some time after getting home from work the other day and could not find it the next morning to go to work again. I also have the trash bags set aside for her to go through too.

True, I just ordered a replacement for the MKC, we lost one of the fobs, we never use the key portion of that fob.

However when buying it does give you a list of locksmiths in the area that can cut the key...

Thanks, will do but from what I have found is that it needs programming/copy to start the car too. The programming I have seen online only works for the remote functions. I will have her check with Ace hardware here a few miles away. If she can't bother to look hard enough to find it then she can pay for the replacement.

You should be able to get a new fob and key on eBay for pretty cheap but you'll have to pay a locksmith to program it for you. When I had one programmed for my 2005 CRV (I've since sold it) the cost was about $50 to program the fob IIRC.

Good for you. I could never get my daughters to do that. I would give it more time, unless you have pets who may be responsible.
