I can’t wait for my state to come out with their special ‘Pacification of DC’ veteran license plate. I am speechless!

So now they give our participation/attendance awards in the NG?

Isn't that special. Bless their hearts.

It has been going on for decades in the military. Every deployment I went on you got something Iraq service medal/ ribbon Afghanistan campaign ribbon/ medal etc.
Our state back in the day even supplied a ribbon for troops who worked in support of the winter Olympic Games.

It's been awhile but you can pick and choose in Army or even choose none.

Not that getting dressed in your A's is an everyday thing in the Guard but if I were a young NCO I would make sure my team, squad, platoon knew they did not have to wear that piece of garbage.

Yup, on one hand, participation and good conduct awards are a major chunk of military awards. You showed up, kept your nose clean, was a team player, bingo! you get recognized with 3-4 awards.

This particular 'award' however has a stench with it; did Hurricane Katrina or Harvey have a unique award created? . Not sure how such things get approved but, its a politically driven tool designed to mark those who 'helped support democracy' ...for a domestic-political event. I would not wear it should it be awarded. My understanding serving in NG, there's very, very few events where class-A or B is required, little chance this award shows up on someones chest...unless they're proud of it Roll Eyes .

it will help separate the wheat from the chaff. Depending on which side you are, you could be the wheat or the chaff. will help identify the ahem "over achievers" I'll bet Col Vindman is all broken up about missing that ribbon.

From the linked story in the OP

“The mass deployment came in the wake of a Jan. 6 siege on the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump protesters.”

They’ve watered down the meaning of the word “siege” since Leningrad.

One of my son’s was called up and had the displeasure to participate in this farce. His comments pretty much mimic what has been said here. It must be some higher ups wanting more salad on their uniform as I doubt my son will ever pin it on his uniform...

Well if that is one of your top three ribbons, you're doing something wrong or, you've been in for less than three years.

Plus, other than an AH (typically an E-7 (not to be confused with a Chief Wink) or boot ensign who hasn't interacted much with a Chief), no one is going to determine if you're not wearing that ribbon.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Not an official award, and not authorized to be worn on uniforms, other than by members of three state National Guards that have authorized it.

"At present the Cold War Victory Medal remains strictly commemorative and is unofficial other than for members of the Louisiana National Guard (medal and ribbon), Texas National Guard (medal and ribbon) and Alaska National Guard (ribbon only)"

Task Force Calls for Permanent National Guard Force to Protect DC

A task force charged with making recommendations to boost congressional security after a deadly Jan. 6 pro-Trump mob assault on Capitol Hill has proposed establishing a permanent military presence ready to go at a moment's notice in Washington, D.C.

The security review, led by retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, who ran military relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina, recommended establishing a permanent National Guard quick reaction force, or QRF, for all of D.C.
