Do you find that your clothes are getting satisfactorily cleaned after one washing, or do you need to run them through a second time?

To answer your question. My clothes get cleaned properly the first time. I've never re-washed a load. Once in a while I do use shout on heavy stains, prior to throwing them in the washer. I use ALL brand of soap and the line for a medium load, the HE's don't like too much soap. I used downy fabric softener too. I've tried others: Purex, Tide, etc. etc. and am on City Water. When they came out of the front loading washer, they were just a little to medium damp, dryer would only run 30 mins and they came out almost wrinkle free.

Powersurge- to answer your question. My Whirlpool Duets 4.1 cu foot, I bought April 2010, I did 30 loads of laundry a month until 2014, then left them at my 4 plex with tenants using them. I went with larger Whirlpool cabrio's and they've never had a service call in the 5 years I had them. The very first and only issue I had with the washer (or dryer) was this year when the door latching mechanism broke on the washer, I could've fixed it but didn't feel like dealing with it and replaced the washer with a new Whirlpool front loader. 9.5 years was a very good run for the unit considering the usage and when I add up how much soap, electric, and water they've saved me over a traditional washer, they've easily paid for the cost of the unit. The Speed Queen is a very robust machine. I simply don't have the time to do laundry almost twice as often due to their size.

I think we would buy the SQ again if we needed another pair. Our previous Whirlpool required three repairs in seven years and tied clothing up in knots and didn't always get it clean. The extended warranty we purchased with it was a frustrating disaster.

These are the threads where I miss Appliance Brad. I still lament the fact that he was run off by those who spent too many nights in the Holiday Inn qualifying as "experts."

Brad, hope you are still here reading even if you aren't posting. Also hoping best for you and yours.

On a side note, just spent all day shopping for entire kitchen worth of appliances, damn this stuff ain't easy. Comparing features, reliability, reviews, ect. vs price. One appliance at a time has always involved lots of research and time for, four that hopefully match color wise is nuts.

For a top loader he would’ve recommended the SQ.
