What do we like these days for long throw spotlights? I'm asking here because there's too much to go through on Candlepower Forums and I'm also not interested in building my own, but thanks in advance for the suggestion.

I want to be able to light up people/critters/objects in the dark at 1K meters with something handheld. Form factor is not particularly important. Rechargable is preferable over disposable for power source. I'd like to keep it at or around the $150 mark.

I've browsed various offerings from Nitecore, Olight, Marinebeam and others, but it's hard to tell what's what, especially since most don't provide candela ratings.

I'd rather not just start ordering stuff and returning what I don't like, so any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks.

-Rob

1K meters or feet? Battery powered 1000M (3000+ feet) will be hard to find...

Some 1000+ footers $150-2%0:

Acebeam K30 [ http://www.acebeam.com/k30 ]

NiteCore Tiny Monster TM06 [http://www.nitecorestore.com/NiteCore-TM06S-4000-Lumen-LED-Flashlight-p/fl-nite-tm06s.htm ]

The most comfortable one I own is a Ryobi 18 volt with the large lithium battery.
Its called Xenon hi beam.
Hand held like a cordless drill and throws a great beam.
Best part is the 18 volt large battery's I use in all my other Ryobi hand tools.
Check one out at Home depot, not good enough ,carry it back.
Bet you will not be carrying it back.

Not with modern CREE LEDs and microprocessor controlled circuitry it's not. At least, not according to the advertising.

See here (for example):

http://flashlight.nitecore.com/ILLUMINATION/TM/TM38/

I didn't specify LEDs, but given the desired range, I doubt there will be other options. I've gone through half a dozen pistol-grip style high intensity floodlights over the years. I'm looking to upgrade from those.

I bet there's a WIDE difference between what an advertising geek (or company that wants you to buy something) calls "illuminated" and what I consider illuminated.

I assume the same, which is exactly why I'm asking before buying.

After seeing the price for that "Tiny Monster", I can certainly understand wanting feedback!

I was getting impatient, so I just ordered one of these:

https://olightworld.com/led-fl...ight-m3xs-ut-javelot

Seems to fit the bill. I'll provide a range report once I have the chance to field test it properly.

Interested to hear how it does. I can't imagine 1200 lumens lighting up 1000 yds though.

The Fenix TK35 does a nice job with a narrow beam. I am not sure the distance but 300 yards was one of my experiences.

New:
The Fenix TK75 flashlight has the power to see everything with 4000 Lumens of pure white light with the help from 4 CREE XM-L2(U2) LED's. This will be the only LED flashlight you will ever want to carry. Only 7.3 inches in length the Fenix TK75 has a max throw distance of 2,232 Feet allowing you to see almost half a mile clearly. The Fenix TK75 is powered by four 18650 batteries and is ideal for uses such as search & rescue, spotlighting, photography, and caving.
