For me, the max phone and an IPad work best and the total cost is likely less, without having the compromise of an item trying to do both. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

With a base price of $2,000 you can forget about getting a free one with a two year contract from a carrier. Maybe a six year contract, but will it last six years? Some of our regular ones didn’t last three. Edited to add: Looks like Apple’s prices are in line with Samsung’s offerings. It seems AT&T will give you $1,900 of credits over 36 months on a Samsung if you trade in a phone worth $290 or more and agree to a $100 a month plan for 36 months. I didn’t look to see what a $100 a month plan does for me over the $40 a month “Unlimited” plan I currently have with Verizon.
Well Apple did design the latest versions of iOS to take up as much screen space as possible and now Apple has introduced the solution to that problem. This message has been edited. Last edited by: trapper189,

I watched the Apple event yesterday afternoon. It was well produced and very informative. However, not all of the items discussed were of any interest to me. What Apple is all about is its quality, its iOS, as well as guaranteed security. My interest would be in the Pro Max, but I'm willing to wait until my carrier offers an upgrade deal. _________________________

We have 2 people at work that have the foldable [non-Apple] phones. One that folds lengthwise & opens into a small tablet, and the other that folds vertically, more like an old flip phone. The latter makes for a compact, though thicker package, when folded. The former, is like a thick cell phone when folded, and a pretty decent sized screen when open.
While folding phones have been a thing for years, bendable displays are pretty neat, I just wonder ow they'll hold up after 3-4 years The Enemy's gate is down.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold/Flip is in its 8th generation. I agree the foldable continuous screen is neat, but never got one because I always worry the fold part was going to crack under repeat use. I wonder why it is not more popular. ETA: The concern about the crease being cracked is legit. AI, yes AI, says crease failure does happen as early as 12 months, which is ridiculous, considering the phone costing nearly $2k. Q

I’m of the same opinion. I wanted the other fold version. The size of the Pro model (not the max) which folds in half. I have a 17 pro I got for free sans tax last year. It’s heavy. Carrying a pistol + backup mag and a light at night, so carrying a phone has become cumbersome. I need the pistol with me more than the phone so I wear the Ultra watch with cellular for comms and just lock the phone up in the vehicles. I want a smaller/lighter phone that folds up. This trend of bigger and heavier and more expensive is not anything I like. I do run an IPad Pro at home for regular internet usage with a Mac Mini for a desktop computer for bills, etc, running dual monitors. The phone and iPad together, run about what this new duo costs and I’d rather have 2 devices. One is smaller and lighter than the duo and at home the iPad is much larger and has a keyboard. Maybe one day they’ll make a smaller, lighter iPhone that is easier to carry. Pro sized, as thin as this duo, that folds would be ideal. I honestly don’t use the phone a lot. I use the iPad an awful lot at home. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

And they probably come with a 12-month warranty. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. One reason I am always 2 or 3 generations behind. They are always “free” or at least don’t raise my monthly bill. I find myself seriously tempted by the Duo to replace my aging Xs. I got the latter from a raffle my wife won at work, maybe she'll get lucky again. My main concerns about the Xs is that Apple will cease updates for it and/or the battery will choke. It is not the oldest piece of Apple gear that I use regularly, I'm getting the feeling that 2027 will be an expensive year for me. I'm sure the various mobile carriers will soon be offering plans that include a "free" phone, maybe one of those will hit the spot. I suspect this is where we will see the first "discounts."

For the me to buy in. Price would have to come down a bit. But I'd need a half way decent case with it. Not talking Otterbox tough. But something I knew would save it half way if I did drop it once every year or two. I feel like being half way tough and foldable case would be tough. But I'm sure someone will do it. Has anybody seen a case solution for the Duo? I can’t count the number of times I’ve given my phone a sideways kick as it was falling towards the pavement. Also, my current case is covered with paint and grease. If I pay 2K for a phone, it has to be in a case. I’m 100% getting the Duo. I use my phone more then anything else I own. I currently have an iPhone Air as my personal and I use a Samsung Z fold 7 for work stuff. I plan on using the Duo for both. Will only get 512gb version. I plan on keeping my Air and will use Apple’s Handoff feature when it comes to AT&T (FirstNet) on days I want to carry a lighter phone. _______________________________________________ Use thumb-size bullets to create fist-size holes.

Everyone pays for their phone. Some people have that cost hidden in their monthly access charges under a term contract. If you want to test my position, try changing your cell carrier a month after you've upgraded and received your "free" phone. When I choose to upgrade, I simply purchase my phone. I do this as opposed to borrowing the money for the phone from the cellular carrier over a 24 month or 36 month term commitment. I'll admit, either way works fine. I've not reviewed every carrier's offerings in detail, but I had noted that with AT&T, the amortization does appear to be interest free. I suppose the cost to the carrier of the interest-free on a grand over two years is worth it to them to lock in the customer's revenue for the two years.
