I'm currently using a Wahl Peanut for buzz cuts (#2 comb). Very simple hair cut for what's left up top. Peanut works well enough but takes repeated passes. The main complaint is that it's AC powered and I need to connect using an extension cord. First world complaint but I tire of the task.

I'd like to get a cordless unit. Looking for hands-on experience with the model or similar models. The reviews for each are not consistent.

1. Wahl Magic Clip $120: currently out of stock and seems to run a little hot. A little concerned about the warnings that these things are very sharp and may cause bleeding.

https://www.wahlpro.com/cord-cordless-magic-clip.html

2. Panasonic ER-GP80 $165: sounds like a nice unit but for whatever reason, not sold in the US. Made in Japan but need to buy from a vendor (either Japan or Israel).

https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...A1QWEL7HFROC9E&psc=1

3. Panasonic ER-GC63 $60: sold here but made in China (generally a no-no for me). But seems like otherwise a possibly good enough unit for me for reasonable price.

Following.
Mine is a corded Wahl & it works well, though I've bogged it down a couple times.
The fine detail trimmer also has nicked me a few times when my wife is doing the final touch-up, especially the spot where the ear meets the head at the top.

It's also pretty loud, with the detail trimmer. The cutter head isn't nearly as loud.

Wahl Clipper Lithium-Ion Cordless Haircutting Kit - Rechargeable Grooming and Trimming Kit with 12 Guide Combs for Heads, Beard, & All Body Grooming - Model 79608 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079..._encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Bought this over 2 years ago and still works well. I don’t think you need to pay $100 for clippers to do a buzz cut. I buzz my hair every 2-3 weeks and the battery has never died and I have no consistent charging schedule

When I started my at the start of COVID closures, the battery powered clippers I had for trims would bog down and take a long time to cut.

I bought a Wahl Pro-Series corded set. Came with two clippers and multiple length guards for both.

Wahl Professional All Star Clipper/Trimmer Combo #8331 - Features Designer Clip and Peanut Trimmer - Includes Accessories

I know they are not cordless like you were asking about but they work great on my thick hair. I give myself a high and tight.

Corded for $20 and 10x better than Wahl and similar cheap clippers. Andis also makes commercial grade ones.

I have a Oster A5 with a stainless steel set of combs. I’ve used it on kids, horse manes and now my goldendoodle. Buy once cry once.

Wahl will last forever. The corded version is not that cumbersome. I usually get 5-7 years out of one.

Pretty sure my old corded Oster 76 will never die so I’ll probably never buy another clipper, but the Japan made Panasonic with a linear motor looks interesting.

+ on Wahl. I have clipper sets and beard trimmers from them. Solid performers.

I use the Wahl Magiclip.

There should be no way you can cut yourself if you are using a guard.

If you are using the clippers on bare skin without a guard, be sure to check the gap of the blade. I set mine to zero gap, then back it off slightly.

The only issue I've ever had was the chrome piece on the plastic cover fell off, and while it still worked fine, it just felt funky without it, so I ordered a clear aftermarket case and replaced the whole top.

Thanks guys.

Ok, Magic Clip is still on the table but no idea when it’ll be in stock. Added the Li Ion model to the list.

Made in Japan Panasonic still on the table as well. I’m ruling out the prc model if there is no history on them.

$100-150 for clippers is more than I think should be necessary I'm trending to BOCO for this.

I’ve had the Magic Clip for several years now with no issue. Usually get 3-4 trims out of it before I ever plug it in. No bogging down and way better than dragging even a small extension cord out. Wife cuts my hair with a #1 and I trim my bear with a #2 about every 2-3 weeks.

In stock here.

While not really necessary, I sprung for the upgraded metal clip guide set.
I'm sure you can order them individually rather than the whole set if you only use a couple of sizes.

One more vote for the corded Wahl. My wife got mine in a kit from Costco way back in 2015 just ahead of my regular haircut girl moving to Hawaii. Perfect since I like my hair really short. It's incredible how much money I save by not paying someone else for a haircut. I am also able to keep very much trimmed, just whenever I feel like doing it. I keep it clean and oiled and it has never bogged down by any definition that description might imply. At around $50, it cost us not quite two haircuts.

I've had an Andis Speedmaster for 12 years & it's not showing any sign of slowing down. I have been keeping it in the shop (humid) & it likes to gum up/rust, but cleaning it correctly would probably stop that. A shot of Boesheild frees it up & lasts 2-3 months before it acts up again.

In the fall off 1992 I went off to college. Couldn’t afford much. Lived off Top Ramen and cheap booze. Cut my hair off with clippers one night on a bet. Since that day it’s been zero trips to the barber and 2 corded Wahl brand clippers. Figure I’ve saved a dollar or two in haircuts over the years. Even cut both my sons’ hair for the first 10 yrs or so of both their lives since then. They’ve moved on to professionals. I’m still using the second pair of clippers I bought 12 years ago and no guard twice a week.

Yall gonna think I'm crazy, but as a dude that has been bald for 21 years, take my advice.

Go to the pet section and buy the Wahl model clippers for dogs.

Same design but made for more thicker course hair. Lasts longer on average than the shit they make for dudes.

Trust me.

10 years to retirement! Just waiting!
