Tillamook has become my go to, 2nd to HEB brand & then Blue Bell.

I assume we are talking about The super premium Costco vanilla ice cream that’s made by Humboldt Creamery in Ferndale CA.Its only ingredients are listed as fresh cream, skim milk, sugar, pasteurized egg yolks, and vanilla extract.
It is pretty good stuff and a good price too.

Too many local places around here that make their own to buy store brands. Only downside is that they close at the end of the season in October.

One of the best is located right outside the gate of sig's academy. More than once I wind up making runs to that shop and picking up a half dozen shakes.

HEB has a '1905 Vanilla' that is most excellent and is my current go to if I want to use chocolate syrup on it.

Baskin Robbins Pistachio ice cream is the best vanilla ice cream especially when I buy it on the 31st with their 31% off discount.

Blue Bunny or Craven here. Costco is really good too.

Recently purchased some. It is pretty dang good.
In fact I had some last night and as I pulled the new container from the freezer I noted that it is significantly heavier than the stuff we previously bought at the grocery store.
I'd be interested in seeing a weight comparison of some of the brands. I'm sure some are full of whipped air.

Despite being a "frequent flyer" at the Costco that is just a few minutes from my house, I have never noticed ice cream there. I have to go to the optical department there this week, so I'll look for it.

The best store-bought ice cream I have had is the Publix Premium brand. A full 64 oz. half gallon tub, frequently on sale for five bucks, with a free tub on your birthday and a half-price tub on your half birthday (six months). And, they stock The One True Flavor: Maple Walnut.

Just about all the HEB options are pretty good. I usually pick up a pint on my grocery run, try something new from time to time.

Costco’s vanilla is really good, but maybe not the best. I think that in the interest of science I’ll have to conduct an up to date comparison. When I was younger I used to think Blue Bell was really good, but it’s fallen way down my list now. There are lots of better choices.

Where did you get that info? Costco is really good at sourcing from local purveyors but, if Humboldt Creamery is still their contracted supplier for their Kirkland ice cream, they're only producing for perhaps Northern CA and Southern OR locations given their production limitations.

Generally speaking Kirkland and member mark are a great value for money, and frequently they're excellent.

I also have great luck with Winco and sprouts house brands.

Winn Dixie Prestige Vanilla Bean was a mighty fine ice cream, when they were in this area,


now the wife either buys Lactose free Breyer's or I get Hershey's from the local convenience store

You need to rectify that. Tours Mon-Fri (Saturdays during June, July, and Aug) and they end in the ice cream parlor.

While living in L.A. county , or close to it ,
We found numerous Thrifty Ice Cream flavors to be much better than average.


We purchased them on a regular basis.
