This for my wife, who is the TV watcher in the family. I find it too frustrating because hearing aids, so I have basically sworn off, but "happy wife, happy life."

There have been a few threads about firing Cable TV, but I have a specific question:

What streaming service, if any, do you use that includes local network channels? Looking for ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX at a minimum. I'm in the Orlando area, if that makes a difference.

I should be able to get these over the air, but reception is unreliable, pixelated, basically NFG. Antenna placement might be the problem, but ain't no way that this 88 year old geezer with limited mobility and terrible balance is going up on the roof, so I want to try it the easy way -- streaming service.

Despite the recent price increase, IMO YouTube TV is the best bet here.

It will have all your local affiliates plus pretty much everything a half decent cable TV package would have as far as channels.

Keep in mind that you have to have something to stream it on, I use a Roku TV or you could add a Roku device to your existing TV

If you already have a Roku, you are halfway there.

A little more specifically:

Streaming services require you have to have an app to watch the service. YouTube TV is no different than Netflix in that respect. If your TV is new enough, you can probably download the YouTube TV app right to the TV.

While older TVs, like our 2012 65” Panasonic plasma screen, may have some apps like Netflix, they may not be able to get any of the newer ones. This is where a streaming device that plugs into a spare HDMI port on your TV comes in. This would be a Roku, Amazon FireStick, Google ChromeCast, whatever would come into play. These devices connect to your network (wirelessly or wired depending on the device) and you download the your streaming apps to them.

We’re using an Amazon FireStick HD on our Panasonic. It was $25 on sale and that TV isn’t 4k. It doesn’t have Ethernet so it’s wireless only, but we haven’t had any issues with it.

My wife is still getting used to YouTube TV, but I don’t find it too confusing. You do have the ability to rearrange the channel order, but you need to do that from a computer. Each person can also have their own arrangement of channels.

The biggest benefit for us is we pay for one service now and it works wherever we are. We can even get the local channels in MI while we are there for the summer. Previously, we had to par for two services, one for MI and one for FL.

ATM, I'm watching Le Millions using YouTube TV.

I poked around on the internet and it looks like YouTubeTV might be the way to go. They have a 21-day free trial, so I'll set it up tomorrow. I'll see if it runs on the Roku app that's on our LG smart TV. If not, I think I have an Apple TV thingy, so I could try that.

Looks like after the 21-day trial, it's two months at half price, then goes up to eighty-three bucks.

we cut the cord 2 or so years ago,

I am good with it, wife freaked out since our area does spotty antenna local channels, so she subscribed to hulu for her local news

Comcast cut me a ''deal'' at $100 a month, and just went up $20,, so she may have us switch to Fios for about 1/2 that

as long as the inet is good, I don't care one way or another,

Are you confirming Hulu carries local tv channels live like the local NBC, etc? And how much does it cost?

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." If you have an Apple TV streaming device then just install the YTTV app, I would not mess with LG’s interface.

What he said. I've used both built in apps on the TV and multiple external devices and external devices always work better and faster than TV based apps.
