Salesman just came by. I can potentially save maybe $70 on TV/internet, maybe $100/mo on cell service.
They are moving to fiber optic but don’t have it to the home yet. Have been seeing some stalling in video streaming on Prime Video; but very happy with Verizon service except for cost.
Since I’m also looking into cable cutting and using Hulu or other streaming service for TV that would argue against switching to DirecTV except maybe for better internet.
For TV we watch Fox News, Fox Business, sometimes CSPAN, PBS, and local news.

I’m interested in hearing from those with personal, recent experience of AT&T/DirecTV service and AT&T cell service.
When I’ve had AT&T service (internet and cell) in the past I have not been happy with either, but I know things are changing.

I stayed with Verizon FiOS but dropped the TV and phone portion, went with internet only. Don't miss the TV crap.

We are still with Direct TV but the above statement is correct. They are a mere shell of what they used to be prior to AT&T purchase. I will stay with them due to NFL Sunday Ticket. At least for now.

Still might be a good deal for you with the phone and internet combination + tv.

My experience has been that AT&T is just as terrible as Verizon. Maybe worse. Certainly less reliable.

Every couple of months their cell service AND internet service completely quits working for everybody in this region. Most businesses have switched to another internet provider (Big Bend Telephone, mostly) because it costs them a lot of money to not be able to process credit cards and checks when the internet is down.

My wife and I carry Straight Talk phones that run on Verizon towers as backup, for when our AT&T primary cell phones, internet and FIOS home phone are on the fritz.

I should add that the decision may come down to whether I can keep my TIVO box or have to use the DirecTV Genie.
I’ve read that the UI on the Genie is awful; I’m used to the UI on the TIVO; only problem is that a tuner adapter is required with Spectrum and often causes trouble.

ATT will have price creep shortly after you switch. I started a year ago with Directv Now at $35 a month. Now it’s turned into ATTNow at $60 per month.

Assuming you have Spectrum for your internet/TV service and Verizon for cellular, I'd suggest trying this rather than moving to ATT. Call Spectrum and cut service back to nothing but internet service. Then subscribe to YouTube TV for TV. All in, you'll be at $110/month. Then sign up for cellular service through Spectrum (they use Verizon towers). $45/month per line for unlimited, or $14/gb for data. I use about 1.5gb of data a month, so my cellular bill is $28/month all in.

IMO Spectrum is superior to ATT and can deliver everything (except YouTube TV) you need for less than what you're currently paying.

We've had Directv for over 15 years now and love it. Customer service is great...at least for us. About six months ago the box was not sending a signal. I called them and they decided it was a "smart card" problem and said they would get a new one to me ASAP. It was at my house the next day. The wife called them 2-3 weeks ago with a question about the bill. They answered her questions and then the gal said as a "thank you" for our being a customer for so long they gave us a free year of the Sunday NFL Ticket. We are both football fans.

We like them.

Been with Direct for about 18 years. I have to say we have been quite satisfied. Customer service has been good. Not much of anything to complain about here.

In the past ten years I've had service from all the major providers in this area, except one. I've had DirecTV, Comcast Xfinity, and my current Verizon FiOS.

They all suck.

Dish TV is worse. Had that service in a store I worked in, which was experience enough not to look to them.

If I could do without Internet, I'd shitcan the lot of them. But I can't. FiOS is my current because my home is already wired for it, I don't want to add a satellite dish, and Comcast... well, switching to another horse is just climbing on another nag.

I guess my experience is different. I was one of the original customers for DirecTv Now was even one of the beta testers when they added dvr and other upgrades to the app. Now it’s AT&T Now and I have no problem with them. I get a occasional 10 seconds of buffering but not enough to be annoying. Channel line up is way more than I need. Had some price creep over the last couple years but I’m still under $60 a month.

My wife and I have been using this service and we are very satisfied with it.

We use very little cellular data, most of our data use is wifi, which is unlimited. We are on the "Pay By The Gig" plan, which gives us unlimited calling, unlimited text, and 1 Gig of data for each phone, for $14 / month, TOTAL, with no added taxes or junk fees. That makes it $28 / month for two phones with a shared data pool of 2 Gigs. We have never come anywhere close to that, but if we do, additional data for the shared pool is $14 / Gig (or fraction thereof). There is no rollover for unused data, so AT&T wins on this point, but our total cell phone cost with the Spectrum plan is the lowest that we can find.

The phone service rides on the Verizon network (Spectrum is a Verizon re-seller), so good signal strength is widely available, maybe the best of the four major carriers.

We had Time Warner/Spectrum internet and CATV in San Antonio. Cost went up and up and up.

When we moved Georgia 20 months ago, we chose AT&T gigabit fiber internet and DirectTVNow.

Cost is about half what we were paying, MUCH faster access, and good channel lineup.

We have been happy with the service.

At this point, I would have to agree with this statement. Their Gigabit Internet is great IF you don't have any problems with it and IF they choose not to throttle your connection. Mine was great when I first got it until after about the year mark, then I started finding diagnostic and application evidence that they were having issues and throttling the connection. Even with swapping gateways a couple of times, as their excuse was that our gateway's software was corrupted and could not be updated remotely any longer, the two other units we tried were no better. I would call and complain about the evidence of what they were doing, and magically it would get better, for a while. Was not abusing or overusing the connection either with hosting or excessive streaming and downloads. Their billing and customer service went from being ok, to being a complete joke and purposely doing things to stonewall and complicate billing corrections and discounts as well as then doing everything in their power to make it difficult to leave their service. And their website and account management is terrible too.

AT&T wireless, same deal. Wanted to have all services from one provider for the hopefully good discounts and service bundle/customer service perspective and regret it. Once our contract is done in a few months they're gone for good.

My advice, don't do it!

Well, back when they were the real AT&T, before the consent decree in 1984, I did get a good paycheck from them every month.

I’ve learned that they all have poor customer service unless I call a number they refer to as “customer retention”.
With customer service the answer is usually no and they want more money for anything. The customer retention groups can do almost anything you want including better, quicker service and lower rates.
You are in a better negotiating position if you are out of contract so keep that in mind.

I’ve had cellular with AT&T for 22 years and UVerse for around 10 years I think. I wouldn’t change service and haven’t had any issues except we don’t have the upgraded fiber yet so our internet isn’t as fast as other providers at the moment. New fiber was laid in the ground out front but not to the house yet.

I’m always surprised when I see all the negative comments about AT&T. I get a discount because my employer uses them so that helps too.

I think I’m considered a “premier” customer or something now. I always get an English speaking customer service person 24/7 if I ever call and I have about zero wait time.

I guess I’m a lucky one.

Good luck with your choice.
