FBI arrests hacker tied to Katie Hill campaign after primary opponents were hacked
https://www.washingtonexaminer...pponents-were-hackedThe FBI arrested a person with ties to former Rep. Katie Hill's campaign in connection with her opponents being hacked in the lead-up to the primaries.
Arthur Dam, whose wife, Kelsey O'Hara, was Hill's fundraiser during the campaign and later became her district director after she won the seat, was responsible for the hacking spree, the Intercept reported Friday afternoon.
“Dam was found to be connected to the cyber attacks through subscriber information, IP addresses, geolocation history, and open sources, including through his employer and his wife, K.O., who worked for one of the Victim’s opponents,” a criminal complaint reads.
Hill's Federal Election Commission records reveal a $500 in-kind contribution from Dam for "graphic design and website security consultation."
The former congresswoman's two Democratic primary challengers, Bryan Caforio and Jess Phoenix, were both attacked in the lead-up to the primary. Caforio, who finished third in the race, saw his campaign website hacked on at least three occasions, and he appeared to be the victim of repeated distributed denial of service attacks, according to Rolling Stone.
Hill has since resigned from California's 25th District seat after winning it in the midterm elections.
Photos of Hill, 32, were published in October that show her naked in a hotel room, brushing the hair of a female campaign staffer who worked on her 2018 congressional campaign. Additional photos were later published that showed her holding a bong while undressed. She apologized and admitted she had an affair with the female campaign aide but denied another alleged affair with an aide and stepped down days later.
