Excellent advice! I alternate yearly between bagged sand and bags of cheap topsoil, about 5 or 6 bags. Buy in December, get rid of in late April. It’s cheap and works well.

After winter I either dump the bags in low spots around my yard, or donate them to neighbors to do the same. Win win situation.

Whatever you do, do not go to tacomaworld.com. Your wallet will thank me later.

I have a 2017 off-road 4wd with 16 inch tires. I went with ko2 E rated because I got a great price but I would have been ok with any of the popular reliable makes. I also went with a slightly bigger than stock tire to get a bit of height and wider tread. I think 265/75. Sidewall a bit taller. My oem tires were crap off road.

The 17 inch Tacoma wheel which I think the pro has, the widest you can fit is 275/70/17 without a lift or rubbing or a fender chop. The bigger tire adds just a smidge of height and looks better IMO. If you want a true 33 it’s a 255/80/17 you can fit without lift. Finding AT tires that size limits choices of makes but you do get the skinny military tire look. Google Tacoma with pizza cutters or skinny tires. The OEM size is 265/65/17.

Of course when you take delivery we will require pics.

I bought a set of Cooper Enduramax tires 6 months ago and they have impressed me this winter. I was a diehard Michelin fan for decades but became disappointed in the last couple of sets that I bought.

No michelins for me either Jim. I would look at Cooper also. Falken, Hankook, Yokahama. All better than the overpriced and overrated michelins. Ymmv

What does the Tacoma come with James?

Otto-
My company truck (2011 4Runner) has Cooper Discoverer SRX all-season tires on it, and I gotta' admit ... they are very good so far. I drive 90% on pavement, 10% snow/offroad/etc.

Also, check your forum profile email account re: property in West Virginia.

ORC,
Haven’t been able to get a solid answer on tires from the factory.
I’ll definitely confirm upon receipt before plunking down any money on new ones.

On the passenger car side of things. I was really disappointed with the Defenders that were on my Malibu (2012 LTZ 18" wheels)
They was a ridiculously long treadwear warranty, but only lasted a bit over half of it.
As the car was 2nd hand to me, couldn't get the prorated warranty as I don't have service records showing timely rotations.

Went with some Yokohama YK740GTX & so far they're outperforming the Defenders in daily driving.
Helps that they were a fair bit cheaper than the Pilot Sport AS4 that I was looking at.

So, trucks, Defender LTX (2 4wd 4Runners, 2 Silverados [1500 Z71 & 2500 Duramax] & a 2WD Yukon XL Denali in my dad's fleet). Cars, avoid the Defenders.

The Enemy's gate is down.

I guess I'll be the one to disagree. The Michelin Defender LTX is the worst tire I've ever used. Poor traction on dry roads, poor traction on wet roads, no traction at all off road in any conditions. Not confidence inspiring on snow or ice.

The reason they last forever is because they don't grip any surface you can drive on well enough to actually cause wear to the tire. Hard as a rock the day you buy them, and they get worse with time. I think it's the only tire I've ever had that I hated enough to replace substantially early.

It's kind of odd, because I like Michelins on my car and motorcycle, but the LTX has zero redeeming qualities.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

'19 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 with Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S 265 75 16. So far been really impressed with it in dry/wet/snow/ice. Also took it for a bit of off-roading in mud, rocks and broken concrete. No issue.

Wife and I both have Michelin LTX mud and snows on our SUV’s. They seem to be a bit noisy, but I figure they’re a harder tire rated for I believe @ 80,000 miles. She purchased hers at Belle Tire I bought mine at Sams Club. We like them and have had nothing else on our SUV’s for as far back as I can remember.

The OEM tires on new Tacomas are pretty decent. 2019 OR came with Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure With Kevlar 265/70/16. I don't know if that's what they are putting on the current year Sport, but Sport usually usually gets 265/65/17 AT.

If your Sport is 4x4, I wouldn't buy a second set of dedicated snow tires. You can if it makes you feel more confident, but just adding some weight in the bed as already suggested does wonders. They sell bladders that you fill with water the adds an appropriate amount of weight with good distribution.

On my 4WD Frontier and a great tire.
12" of snow last week and went right through it.
Pretty quiet on pavement too.

Defender LTX tires here too, like them.

I also have dedicated Winter tires at times, certain vehicles. If in a lower snow area, especially with a 4x4 or AWD vehicle, I would just get the better type of all-season tires. If in the extreme snowbelt, with less capable vehicles, different story.

My 2020 Ranger 4x4 came with the Hancook, not impressed @ 17k miles/18 months on the road.

Replaced with the Nokia Rotiiva AT all season.

great so far. Plenty of rain/cold & a little slick. Very little snow so far.

Something under $900 for the set but think the price is on the swell. If these are like other Nokias I've had, they are even more impressive at 100k miles.

I wouldn’t worry about snow tires here. We normally get little snow these days and it gets cleared so quickly.

Maybe we will have a big storm every 5-10 years but it will still get cleared.

Personally I’m tired of all the salt we dump on the roads here. So glad for the rain today to wash it off our roads.

I had Goodyear Duratracs on my 2012 Wrangler previously. Tread life, I had 55k on them when I replaced them November 2020. Off road even worn down they were good but got noisier as time went by. I really didn’t notice that but they were about a year old or so and my friend and I went up north and he complained about the tire noise. And he’s stone ass deaf in one ear. Snow traction even when new was ok but not great. Wet pavement traction was good.

Put KO2’s on it, noticed right off much better in the snow, even in 2WD. I have about 12-13k on them and they are quieter, at least I don’t have the radio turned up as loud on the expressways.

Michelin CrossClimate2 here. Love ‘em. Great in dry, wet and the 6” of snow we got from this storm. Great deal from Costco, too.
