Getting our second (my) vehicle any day now, and I’ll admit I’ve never owned a vehicle in a climate that wasn’t Florida, Napa, or Hawaii.

The few times I’ve driven in snow have been so sporadic it didn’t warrant special tires.

So, what’s the consensus on a good all weather tire? Do folks go with AT tires? The internet always pops up KO2 and comparable but I’m not filtering through all the paid advertisement for real reviews.

What do folks that get light snow? Does it even need to be a consideration in this area of the country?

Vehicle is a Tacoma.

I live here in Berryville, and drive to work on the Blue ridge.

I have a 2011 Tacoma, and I buy my tires at Costco. They are Michelin light truck tires, Defender LTX mud and snow.

They are nice and quiet year round, and do great great here in virginia.

Nothing, nothing is great on ice in a rear wheel drive truck. We get ice storms more often than snow, however this year has been different.

Just slow to conditions, and give yourself space. Tougher in your neck of the woods, but let the crazys speed around you.

I get heavy snow and ice. Got Michelin Cross Climate 2s this year and love them so far. Great traction and handling.

I did see a thread where folks raved about defender tires from Michelin and their longevity.

I’ll give it a look.

We’ll be spending many weekends in West Virginia developing a property for retirement. So SOME off road or all terrain capabilities might be beneficial.

For what it's worth: I resisted Michelin for a good long time, partly out of loyalty to my local Cooper dealer (I worked there for a while) and partly due to Michelin's price.

When I had to replace tires on the old SUV two years or so ago, the Cooper tires I've liked for so long were discontinued. I bit the bullet and bought a set of Michelin Defender LTX.

I can't say anything bad about them (aside from the initial cost). Roughly 25k miles on so far, and they still look and perform like new. They're noticeably quieter and smoother than what I had been buying, and performance on snow and on dirt roads has been as good or better as well. I don't regret finally making that purchase.

I have a Nissan Pathfinder and run only Michelin Defenders on it.

Living in Maine, and never had an issue.

Had Goodyear Duratracs on a Ram 2500, while they worked well off road on ice and snow not so well, hit 15k miles and they got noisy on top of it. Went to Michelins and never looked back.

Defender LTX is all my dad runs on his trucks. Load range E when they have them or he has time to order.
He's consistently gotten over 50-60k out of them.

KO2 would probably be my second choice.

But, this is based on Houston driving. So rarely any freezing or snow/ice.

Even on this forum it’s rare that everyone agrees.

Defender will definitely get my first look!

Tacoma is a light truck. For snow--you need extra weight over the rear tires. 50 lb bags of sand during a snowstorm helps a lot (300 lbs).

Michi LTX on my trucks; except in winter when it wears studded Nokians.

4runner and three time Tacoma owner - Michelin gets my vote. I've had other more aggressive tires but they don't strike as much of a balance. I only drive off road maybe 10% of the time so longevity, ride and noise are more important to me than ultimate traction or cool appearance. They are fine in the snow, as mentioned, some weight in the back helps quite a bit.

I like the BFG K02 and have had great luck with the mileage and performance in the snow, another plus is I think they look better. Nothing against the Michelins.

I too have had good performance results from Michelin. For the last set due to size/availability I went with Continental TerrainContact A/T's and have been very happy with them. A/T tread pattern but they also have two large channels to help in wet conditions.

Michelin Cross Climate or more likely, the Nokia Rotiiva AT.

FWIW Costco has been having $150 off Michelin set of 4 for the last few months off and on.

Saw the 150$ off, but it won’t show me the price of the LTX M/S without being a member.
