Since somewhat recently discovering my affinity for bourbon whiskey, I have found that the vast majority of “blended” whiskies are simply not worth taking home; I required genuine “bourbon whiskey”! However, I just discovered an exception...

My sister-in-law, having just retired and needing to cut expenses, especially from her love of Jack Daniels Old #7, mentioned that she used to drink Seagram’s 7. So, I decided to give it a try, but quickly hesitated when I saw it was a “blended” American whiskey!

My apprehension was in vain... the stuff is actually good! In fact, after trying some I went back to my normal preference, Kentucky Tavern Special Reserve, and also compared to JD, one I had always liked. But guess what? After drinking some Seagram’s 7, I have zero desire to go back to what was drinking!!! The stuff tastes good, and it’s smooth with no “bite”!

I guess that means I’m no longer a bourbon snob, and will be drinking a blended whiskey from now on!

Reminds me of the old saying... “Never say never!”

Now try my favorite: Seagrams VO Gold.

The only blended whiskey I have found I like is Hibiki, it is Japanese and has more of a floral/ tea like character. It’s very pleasant.

Generally I prefer bourbon, neat.

I'll second the VO Gold recommendation.

Just because something is a blend doesn’t mean it’s bad. And just because something is single barrel or malt doesn’t mean it’s good.

Sometimes it's just the company I drink with - and the Gun BS that ensues.

But I like the $$$ Whiskey the best.

The only blended whiskey I currently have on hand is Tullamore Dew, which is a decent blended Irish whiskey.

I really like to drink a 7&7, a Seagrams 7 mixed with a 7-Up.

Have started blending my own.
Filled a decanter with a fifth of Wild Turkey some time ago. Once it became half full I added a pint of Knob Creek.

When it becomes half full again I'll add a pint of Makers Mark, or Buffalo Trace, or whatever.

This will go on for the foreseeable future.

Crown Royal is a blend. The blending keeps taste consistent year after year.

This is a good idea.

Blending doesn't mean bad or poor quality, as has been said, it is for taste.

Just don't make the mistake of assuming it has some kind of Colorado other than the name. Its distilled in Indiana and blended there too. I'm not saying its bad whiskey (I've got a bottle sitting on my counter). But the attraction is in the name, not other qualities. Glad you like it.

Jonnie Walker Blue label is a blend.

The american blend I tried was J.H. Cutter. Not "Amazing" but good.

Four Freedoms... saw a guy drink a fifth of that and he tipped over and soiled himself, so avoid that one.

This. Yup.

I grew up in the South and we only drank straight bourbon Kentucky whiskey or sour mash. Fifty years ago, when I entered med school, many of my classmates were from the North and they were all used to drinking blended bourbons, which they incorrectly called "rye" .
