Should I tile under bathroom vanity?

gpbst3Should I tile under bathroom vanity?
I just started a bathroom remodel. Everything is coming out, including half the drywall.
My question is, should I tile under the vanity?

MattWCan go either way...
What’s the sub floor, slab or wood?
Slab I would tile it, wood I wouldn’t Incase you ever have a water issue.
Super expensive tile? If not, you’re not talking about that much more in costs.

a1abdjI say yes in the event you ever replace the vanity in the future without redoing the floor.

comet24I do.
Two reasons. If you ever change the vanity without redoing the floor you will be happy you did. Vanity size can differ. Even between two that are supposedly the same size. Some vanities you can see under so if you ever go with that style you will wish you had.
The second reason I like is the waterproof factor. Especially if it's a bathroom kids will use to bath.
If I'm running low on tile and the vanity comes completely to the floor you can use leftover cut pieces under the back.

Plywood subfloor. Bathroom is on the second floor. 5x8 not including the shower.

ArtieSYes. It gives you the best options for the future and waterproof as noted above.

FenrisYes, but don't skip the grout. The builder tiled under our dishwasher but didn't grout. When the dishwasher leaked it ran straight to the basement. I've subsequently caulked the hell out of it then used construction adhesive to line the sides and bottom with rubber shower pan liner. If the new one someday leaks, at least the water will come out the front where I can see it.

h2oysYes for the reasons above. Plus you can hide the cuts against the wall under the vanity.

scratchyWhat everyone else said. Do the whole floor. Grout included.

KraquinYes because one of your expert carpentry neighbors is going to use your bathroom one day and say, "WTF, why didn't you tile under your vanity?"
February 03, 2020, 09:24 PM
smschulzI'm remodeling our master bath and I am tiling that area.
I'd do the same in a kitchen too.
YMMV

That's some lazy shit there. Obviously the dishwasher wasn't there in order for them to tile. Why wouldn't they take the 2 minutes to grout it, too?

As a builder, there is no way I would let my trade get away with that.

THIS. The amount of tile you'll use is negligible when it comes to price.

bigdealTile the entire floor and then install one of the new vanities that install on the wall (i.e. off the floor). Best of all worlds.

WoodmanYes. The counter will appear lower if you do not.

farmanIt the floor is only plywood you will need to "mud" down cementboard or your tiles and grout lines may crack.
