I would agree that plinking him after going outside and coming back in was bad judgement.
However:
A smart lawyer could still argue self defense with the claim that our shooter believed his attacker was fully capable of following the shooter outside and continuing the assault.
And the step outside was just to gain the best opportunity to draw from an off body carry bag.

Given the information we have, I would agree that assumptions this is a cased-closed bad shoot are entirely rectally generated.

I see a pretty clear disparity of force until the roscoe comes out. That sucker punch was deadly force.

Nobody here can say this fight was over with any certainty before primers were struck and organs got perforated.

The rest of the story might be interesting.

Yep. Plus there's no audio. No idea what the guy was saying. May have been threatening a follow up attack.

I have to wonder whether the "journalist" who wrote the linked article has ever taken a course in English writing. "But then that man turns around and pulls out a gun, shooting the man who punched him multiple times."

Exactly what happened "multiple times?"

A) "Shooting the man?"

B) "Punched him multiple times?"

C) All of the above?

It really doesn't matter. It was a sucker punch delivered from a blind side, with the Punchee (later, Shooter) appearing to be completely at ease. Absent a threat or immanent violence, Puncher (later Room Temp Lottery Winner) had no legal justification to launch on Punchee. I would argue that he had no moral justification either. You just don't do that.

It was a punch without obvious justification or honor. Doesn't mean he deserves to be dead, doesn't mean the Shooter was justified in dropping Puncher, just means don't start none, won't be none, and words or past deeds aren't enough.

I am sympathetic, but the shooter could be in trouble.
This ^^^^^

I'm not going to condemn the shooter, but that looks to me like a bad shoot.

Justified or not justified, don't care. One less thug is always good for society.

Anybody here wanna bet on the length and breadth of the shootee's rap sheet? Something tells me he was on course for this sort of outcome for some time. Also, I doubt the world lost much with his departure from it.

He got what he deserved. If more such situations ended like this and were heavily publicized, the problem might go away.

it was a good shoot because the bad guy is dead

I hope the shooter stays unidentified and has a long and happy life

Many of you keep saying he goes outside and comes back in.
I am not seeing that.
I see him walk to the door open the door and fire from the door way not passing fully through the door way before shooting.
There is no audio so we don’t know what is being said.
The fella just got sucker punched you can pretty much bet he is a bit if not really dazed and seeing stars from the punch.
If the dude who punched him is saying something threatening to him and the shooter is somewhat dazed and fears because he is seeing stars will not be able to escape if dude tries to attack again. I say possibly could be good shoot.

But we are dealing with an audio less grainy clip.
So who knows.

The guy that got punched never left and returned. He was in fear for his life. He positioned himself at the exit and fired a round to stop his attacker while giving himself an escape route. The bully wasn't actively pursuing the victim, but the victim wasn't aware of that fact...he had just been punched into a state of semi-consciousness.At least, that's how I would spin it.
