When it disturbs me by ringing, I glance over at the caller ID, but almost never pick up the handset. A waste of time and effort. Its nearly always a number I don't recognize. When I do, its one of my wife's friends. Worse still, a relative I want nothing to do with.

My phone has become an instrument of inconvenience. There was a time when I liked it. But the advertisers have killed all that. The Government has abdicated its duty by passing a worthless law. All the do not call list does is employ some idiots who don't do their job and allow "criminals" to bother me. The law that provides for their well being (not mine) is routinely ignored. I do remember in the past when they made a big deal out of an arrest or two. But those are now even not processed.

It would seem the storm troopers make high profile arrests for what I consider minor crimes. But not crimes that impact me. I still need to pay my monthly stipend to the morons at the local Bell who also allow this to continue. With todays technology, they could easily kill all calls that use spoofing of their caller ID.

The criminals who decide to put my phone # on as their caller ID should be shot. I don't answer any call from "me". From my easy chair, I can either see or hear all the phones in my home. The fake "do not call" list is worthless. The worthless politicians exempted themselves from the rules, which was mistake #1. About the last people I want to talk to are out of power democrats trying to get me to vote for them.

I live in a state that doesn't elect democrats to any office except minor city positions. I don't even vote for them. When they place their campaign signs on my property, I trash them. Then I vow to never vote for them, ever.

If you want my money, don't attempt to get it by calling me. The latest scam are the folks who say they're from the police ball, seeking to get a contribution from me. I've heard that police don't have balls. Doesn't matter, they're not getting any more of my money. I pay taxes, they should pay for their own balls.

I only answer my phone if it is someone that is in my contact list calling. I always figure if it’s something important anyone else can leave a voicemail.

Drop the land line, have your wife give her cell number to her friends, solves that problem, ATT has spam call blocker service, and there are others you can subscribe to, yes allowing spoofed ID should be against the law, and tel providers should be required to stop allowing it, but it's not, so like a firearm you have to protect yourself.

Cell phones - They have made "normal" people self-centered. You're expected to carry the thing 24/7, leave it on at all times, and stop whatever you are doing when someone has some want or need to immediately speak with you. "Why didn't you answer?" is what I hear from family. Customers figure it out on their own.

I refuse to answer a phone when I am eating. Likewise when listening to an audio book while driving. Often I do not answer on principle of refusing interruption while enjoying a drive and my solitary thoughts.

The phone is on Do Not Disturb from 6pm to 6am. Only the Select Few can ring through, but they do not call. They have sense enough to text.

I was thrilled to recently hear my father complaining of my youngest niece "She does not answer the phone when someone calls". He meant, of course, she ignored his call knowing he was calling. She had a reason and I did not question the reason. Homework, snack time, visiting with a friend, who knows what worlds spin in the mind of a ten year old. But it is her reason, and I respect that.

The only person who calls my house phone any more is my mother. I try to get her to call mine or my wife's cell phone however she still calls the house phone.
My cable company has caller ID on my TV when it rings so I know who is calling right away. If I do not recognize the number I let my answering machine pick it up.
There is a hair salon that is one number off from my home number and we get hangups all the time after they hear the answering machine.
Lately my caller Id is showing that I am now reviving calls from my self.

I let all numbers I don't know go to voicemail, period.

On my work phone, I pick up calls I don't know, because it's a necessity. Also I don't care if spammers get that number.

There is actually "movement" in Congress on the spam call problem. Because it's that bad.

I believe the new iPhone update allows for auto forward to VM of any number not in contacts.

Not an option for me while still working, but the day after I stop it's getting turned on.

All the scammers here use MQT phone numbers. To fool you into thinking that someone local that may need to reach you is calling. I too have ceased to answer if the number is not in my contact list.
I keep my landline solely so I can give out its number to people I know will make it available to scammer databases. And then I dont answer their calls.
The phone is now another tool of harassment.

I constantly get calls from the same area code and prefix. The spammers assume that you will pick up thinking it is someone that you know calling. The only person that I knew with that area code and prefix passed away four years ago. Any and all of those calls go to voicemail, they are about equally divided to vehicle warranty or the Visa and Mastercard center offering 0% interest on all my credit cards.

The landline which we use for faxes mainly receives Medicare insurance solicitations, knee, wrist and elbow braces and some pharmacy scammers also. Those depending on my mood either get a vintage Touch-Tone phone squealing buttons treatment, a F-U or if I'm in a creative mood I answer in Spanglish and or swear a bit in Serbian (father's side) or Chaldean (the Chaldean came from a friend and customer who would call me at work with a cheery hello followed by an obscenity) to liven things up.

The phone companies and our state and federal government are all useless in fighting this. They all give lip service to the problem and that is all.

My phone only rings if it's someone in my contacts list. All other calls get routed to voicemail, and of the 10% of callers that leave a message, a few are people I want to talk to, so they get added as a contact.

On top of all the above, my ringer is off at least 1/2 the time. I can usually hear it vibrate anyway.

That’s the cell. We do have the land line still, part of the internet plan.

I'm right there with you guys. I use nomorobo on my cell phone which does a decent job of blocking most spam calls. I do not answer numbers I do not recognize or that on not in my contacts. If they leave a voicemail, then I will consider calling them back. Most don't because spam.

We shut the ringers off on all our home phones, never ever pick it up. We would not even have it if it wasn't cheaper to have the 3 product bundle than to go with just internet and cable. The screens on the phones routinely show the callers, it's almost exclusively spam and robocalls.

Scammers and thieves have completely hijacked telecommunication and it's a shame.

I get all of the above of course, and my number is two numbers in a different order from the Troy Police Dept. (not the emergency number). Their number has 642 in it and mine is 624. The Troy Police get a lot of calls in the middle of the night. My sleepy hello at 0200 hours seems to confuse people. Smile

I’ve turned it into a game. They call me and say things like they are an officer from the social security department, or the IRS, I’ll keep them on the phone for as long as time permits.
I’ll play along with their charade and at the point in time they say they are sending an officer over to arrest me, because I have not complied, I ask if they will be arresting his mother as well...
East Indian guys get very upset when you speak of their mother as a sexual toy.

When the land line rings, I may glance at the caller ID, but since my parents and my wife’s parents died, nobody legitimate ever calls on that line. My bride insists we keep it active for some reason.

6 BS calls yesterday.
Working on 4 so far today and it's not even noon.

Phone is on mute when sleeping.

Every number gets put in as a contact. If you are new and want me, you had better leave me a message.

All of the spam calls are out of control.
Google calling for ads, companies wanting to loan money and free hassle free assessment for health insurance are the most frequent and annoying.
