In 1904, #14666, the first of the 150 hp J.I. Case steam engines was tested by being called upon to pull four 15 hp new engines (weight 57, 600 pounds) up the 13 percent grade at the rear of Case Company's engine assembly building in Racine, Wis.

Shared it with one of our owners, he'd seen this video with more of the backstory. That is just awesome!

And that's one of the many reasons it's so cool. Pure "fuck you" flowing out the stack.

Check out that guys other videos on his page. Some good ones there pouring casting for block, building crankshaft, mounting the 6,500# wheels, etc. He owns the company, but the old dudes helping with this seem like the kind of experience you'd need for a project like this.
Built from scratch.
Very, very cool. Thanks for the post Patriot.

Actually, burning wood would be carbon neutral. Coal? Not so much.
It does add new meaning to the term "rolling coal"

They have utilized many 3D printed sand molds to produce castings for these projects. They would hand carve the rigging system for the sand gravity process. I know because during my undergraduate program I'd have to clean, package, and ship the printed parts. Note some of these molds were in the 60" x 48" size.

Took them 10 years to build it from the Case blueprints. No original engine exists.
Amazing dedication!
