Congratulations. That is awesome! It's good to see the little one so excited about it. Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love. - 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Moose is by far some of my favorite meat. Congrats. You guys have to win a lottery up there for a moose hunting license, correct? Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

What town were they in to get that moose, Paul? Thanks.
They did for a while and the high point was maybe 20 years ago. Then the wasting disease clobbered them. Never see them around here any more. They've reduced the number of moose tags that are lotteried off by about 70% since then but I'll confirm that with my F&G wildlife biologist buddy. Harshest Dream, Reality

Don't know where they are. I asked, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. And yes, AFAIK, it's by lottery. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

As a non-moose-hunter, I have to ask: at that kind of weight, how does a hunter get a dead moose out of the woods? God bless America.

Animals that big would be quartered and either packed out with a few people or hopefully a vehicle is involved. Congrats to her!! -Jeff

a Maine moose? A friend of mine. She is in her sixties. Grew up in Maine. As a little girl was driving with her dad. Hit a moose in the car. The legs of the moose ended up through the windshield. Moose was still alive. Broke both her dads legs. Had to wait over an hour for someone else to come by and shoot the moose. She was a little girl at the time and said she was really scared. Quite an ordeal. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Fortunately, her Dad was able to drive his pickup pretty much right to it. Like the old joke: "Where's the best place to shoot a moose?" "Right next to the pickup." Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Moose is some good eating. When we were working at the camp in AK, the kitchen served up quite a bit of it. The chef knew his stuff, and they way he prepared it it tasted like high quality lean ground beef. He also had a pretty dry sense of humor. My son thought it was the coolest thing that we were eating game meat, so he took to asking every day what kind of animal we were eating. One day when there was a group of campers there going through the serving line, he asked Eric the chef what kind of meat we were having that day. Eric looked at him and without missing a beat and a completely flat expression (and within clear earshot of the campers, lol) responded, "Coon" ![]()
