For those who use an electric, which gives the better shave?

Not really from Vienna |
I think this will boil down to a matter of personal preference and beard type. I much prefer the foil type.

I think foil is better but too fragile for my aggressive shaving style. After many torn screens, I have reconciled to using a rotary. It's not that bad.

I had a Braun years ago and it didn't work well at all for me. I always ended up going over spots again with a razor. I recently started using a rotary head shaver and I'm kind of liking it. Thinking of buying one just for my face, share the work. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

Me too. I've been happy with the Norelco ever since. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird

Foil. Braun or Panasonic. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Just put a new head on my Braun series 7 after two years use. _____________________ Be careful what you tolerate. You are teaching people how to treat you.

I've used both, I find if you have a mustache and or a beard the foil is easier to use around them to follow the lines, I had the top of the line Panasonic wet/dry shaver and it was great. Used a Norelco for a while and after moving I could never find it again. I now use a Braun series 5, Like the Panasonic better but more Money.

I use a Braun. Long time now. But it is not as good as the Ronson I had years ago. SIGnature NRA Benefactor CMP Pistol Distinguished

I've used Norelco since I started shaving, picked up from my father. Always worked for me. Tried a Braun once and had severe irritation. Never tried again.

I've only owned and used rotory types and they have worked and lasted very well with my somewhat light beard. I do find myself needing a blade touch up in the hard to get places like close to the underside of my nose and under my jaw bone where the electric doesn't get a clean shot. No big deal, a few swipes with a disposable and I'm good to go. Maybe I'll try a foil when and if my rotory dies. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. I have both. I prefer shaving wet in the shower with soap. Norelco works better wet, Panasonic works better dry. __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! Sigs Owned - A Bunch

Braun series 5 with Williams Lectric Shave has worked well for me for years. Amazon has replacement cutter/foil head for $25. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

I had lower end (<$100) Norelco shavers since I was old enough to shave regularly. Bought a Braun Series 7 probably a year and a half ago and I think it does much better. This one was a fair bit more money and it has the cleaning station which I'm sure helps so it isn't a direct comparison but I've been happy with the Braun.

I've had both types. I (currently, at least) prefer the foil type and have a Braun. "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards

Foil. Just got another Braun (#4). Tried a rotary, but it didn't do well. Williams Lectric Shave helps with either choice, though once a week I still have to break out the old Trac II and Barbasol shaving cream...

Have both (Braun and Norelco). If I skip shaving a day or two I use the Norelco as the Braun doesn't do well on the slightly longer whiskers. If I shave everyday, the Braun gives me a slightly closer shave. I sometimes use both depending on my beard that day and what I am going to be doing. The only issue I have had was when the screen on the Braun cracked. It was so sharp it cut me and I didn't feel it at all. Only noticed when I saw blood on my face in the mirror. Replaced foil and all was well again. Actually like them both. I tried them all but they never worked well with my heavy beard growth. Any electric style I tried still gave me a pronounced five o'clock shadow. Always have had to shave. (I did try some of the latest Norelco & Braun stuff as my sons use electric). Closest shave I found was the Braun Series 7. Would love to see one that worked for me.
