Looking for something to use to print out forms. Basic, nothing fancy, least expensive. No color ink cartridges {shudder}

I'm all about the black only Brother laser printer.

This is the model I have.

Brother, we have multiple at the office.
Reasonable toner prices, and really reliable.

Ours are all similar to the one 6guns linked.

I have an older non wireless, similar to mentioned above, Excellent (Brother) printer. Keep in mind it comes with a "starter" cartridge , good for 700 pages or so.

I have a Brother HL-L5210DW that I got through Amazon and am happy with.

My initial complaint was that it seemed to need a more complex setup that should have been required for simple tasks, but I suppose most printers are like that these days. By ignoring most things it asks about or making settings with the computer and not the printer it works fine for my purposes.

If it might matter, the printer is rated for a max paper weight of 60 pounds. I print a lot of shooting targets on 80 lb card stock, so to be safe I use an old semi functional HP printer for that, but it’s only a minor nuisance.

similar to the other brothers. I have had my black only brother laser printer for well over a decade and it just prints and prints. And it does duplex printing so I can print double sided without having to manually feed it.

I am definitely in the brother printer camp (MFC models). I am definitely in the "avoid HP products at all costs" camp. I will never buy another HP product if at all possible (printer, computer, laptop, anything). Friends don't let friends buy HP.

Brother printers (limited selection) are available from costco to take advantage of their return policy should it prove necessary.

HP toner is comparatively obscenely expensive.
We were glad when we decommissioned out last HP MFP.

I use Brother laser printers exclusively. I have one that's about 20 years old and still just works.

This. We bought a Brother HL-L2370DW few years back and we're still on the same large toner cartridge. It has saved us a lot of money over those super expensive inkjet cartridges that quickly run out of ink.

The laser cartridge can be pretty expensive, no matter if you go ink or laser. The one for the Brother listed above is $179 each on Amazon.

So before you pull the trigger on any printer, check Amazon for the price on the supplies, toner isn't inexpensive especially "factory" cartridges.

See if you can find an aftermarket company that makes quality cartridges for your laser.

Otherwise, while you don't want ink, it might be less expensive to find one of the Epson Eco-Tank printers with the refillable cartridge, it's could be less expensive. Epson says the black ink fill will print 4500 pages, quite a bit of printing.. and if you are just printing documents that's a plus.

Epson Printer

I know you said no cartridges but they all have them, it's just the style and type that's different. The Epson listed doesn't have replaceable cartridges you need to mess with, it uses bottle refills and it scans, prints, fax and has AirPrint so you can print from your wireless devices if you want.

Figured I'll be that guy....

And hey, Shaq likes them....

Here are some other great reasons to ditch HP.

Brother, Brother or Brother, Do not use cheap non-Brother chinese toner. I ruined 2 Brother printers until I learned to buy only the Brother toner.

Agreed, Brother genuine only. Not enough cost difference to justify risking non-OEM.

I have a HP 1020 Laserjet. About 20 years old. It is still a workhorse. Carts from here https://www.ldproducts.com/ work great.

One issue is it does not connect to new win11. I have a win10 that is now win11 that still works the 1020
