In my humble opinion, step-daughter #1 is completely insane. Absolutely bonkers. About 6 months ago her felonious boy friend wanted to get frisky but she was tired from a long day of avoiding responsibility so she refused. Long story short, she claimed he restrained her, choked her and generally abused her.

She filed a no-contact protection from abuse with the court against him.

He hasn't stopped pestering her from that day by making fake accounts on social media and texting her with spoofed numbers. She changed her phone number so the texts stopped but the social media harassment continues. The police haven't done anything because they say they can't prove it's from him. Yesterday he messed up and sent a message to her with his picture attached to it and mentioned his amputee status. She's taking it to the DA to see if they can do anything.

Her mom, my wife, thinks it's a bad idea to make him upset for fear of revenge. I say why keep giving him power and allowing it to continue? Either do something or let the whole PFA thing go.

Oh, by the way, she's pregnant with his spawn. Anyone have a cyanide tablet for me?

What would you do? Encourage her to press charges or let it go?

I don't know how you step-fathers deal with that kind of shit.

Hope you and the wife don't get stuck providing daily care for the spawn. But I know that is probably how it will go.

OT, press charges for sure. Then make sure she moves out of the house for good.

That's one part I won't mind. Between a felon dad and an insane mom we're the only hope this child will ever have.

I'd encourage her to pursue the charges. He doesn't sound like the kind to back off. I had a client with an ex like that. We were working on all that stuff when he had the good grace to die of some illness.

To be honest, she got better relief that way than I ever could have gotten her.

You are in the landscaping business, right? Gotta 10hp woodchipper and a pond full of hungry fish nearby?

Pursue it. If he did choke her and assault her, he'll do it again.

Here's the thing. I can remember what state you live in exactly, but if you live in Kentucky here is how the statue is viewed.

Violation of a Kentucky/Foreign EPO/DVO is one of the charges that she doesn't "have" to pursue. It is one of the charges upon probable cause that the local LE or state police goes and finds numbnuts and locks him down. My agency tries to locate numbnuts for a reasonable amount of time to make a probable cause arrest, and if that doesn't pan out the next business day *WE* take out the warrant for him. The victim doesn't do anything because the "victim" is actually the Commonwealth, not the holder of the EPO/DVO.

If you don't live in Kentucky, then check with the locals, but most states work in a similar fashion. EPO/DVO violations are dimly viewed around here, and rack up some pretty good jail time. I would most definitely have her pursue it. If she doesn't he'll likely just keep piling on. If she pursues charges, and he retaliates most states have some form of charges for that.

So yes, pursue it.

Pursue, pursue, pursue.

Anybody advising you against such course of action is not familiar with the statistics. Such offenders rarely stop until forced to do so by law enforcement or lawful self defense.

Mark, I don't see any upside from you trying to help at this point.

I heard that when a lifeguard approaches a drowning person, they wait until they're about done in, not trashing around, etc. They say trying to help those that aren't limp yet can actually hurt both the lifeguard and the person they're trying to save.

It's like you're driving around and you see a bad lawn. Do you stop and immediately work on the lawn to beautify it? I bet you wait until you make sure the owner wants their lawn to be fixed and they actually make an agreement with you to fix it. Otherwise, anything you do at this point will only be used against you in the future.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Not as far fetched as it might sound. I am personally aware of a young woman whose 12 year old son has to take daily shots to counter damage when his "father" punched his mother in the stomach when she was several months pregnant.

That shit is not as rare as some might think.

I'm in the beat his ass like the redheaded stepchild of a gov't mule camp. Maybe see what else you can amputate that he won't want amputated...

Seriously, though. Definitely advise her to pursue it further. Numbnuts needs some time in jail.

A Perpetual Disappointment...
