Nobody was wearing a mask but a couple of customers. No sales guys, no credit guys, not the woman working behind the refreshment counter, not me or Mrs. Flash, nobody.

I loved it.

I walked into a LGS on Friday. While there was a posted mask requirement note on the door, nobody inside was wearing one.

A place where I frequently shop even took down their "mask required" sign months ago.

Awesome. As long as they don't care who or what is coming across the border they can stick their mandates up their ass.

We went shopping yesterday in Panama City. No masks in 2 major retailers, our restaurant and while on a 2 hours sightseeing tour. It was great.

H1N1 is still around 100 years later. The US death tolls are similar to C19 but globally there is no comparison between the Spanish FLU and C19. (not yet, anyway)

You're right, I wasn't, but I also know back then the fear, panic, political agendas, and control factors were no where near what we are dealing with today.

It's been that way at a few places here since the governor lifted the official restrictions but let businesses keep the mask requirement if they want to.
Friday I went to Costco and walked up to the door with mask in hand and said 'do I need this?' The girl said yes, so I began putting my mask on. As I was, I asked 'do they give you any idea how much longer they expect to require them?'

She turned cold and in an authoritarian,Karen voice said 'when the CDC says it's safe'

I chuckled at her obvious disdain and said 'oh good lord', while shaking my head and started inside.

Lots of Kool-aid drinkers still very active out there.

Well, masks were mandatory under threat of jail during the Spanish Flu pandemic. You're right about lack of political agendas, but there was plenty of fear, panic and control.

I have a very particular
set of skills

Passed through a small neighboring town yesterday...there were 4 folks at one of the intersections (one each corner) holding signs saying things along the lines of 'Take off the senseless mask - stop living in fear.'

Flip side the other day saw a fellow putting on his second mask over his first as got out of his vehicle to walk across a parking area...

From one extreme to the other...

Slightly related...my local small town paper has a 'Rants & Raves' section for local folks to chime in. Last week there was nothing posted in the 'Rants.' This week there was a single 'Rant' about the 1st. World Problem of having to change their clocks for DST. Roll Eyes

Really? Gas has gone up 60 cents/gal. in the past few weeks, a decimated economy, a $1.9T 'relief' package where only 9% is going to help said decimated economy, a legit. crisis going on at the border, our Executive Branch is the laughing stock of the world, and the only 'Rant' they dare post is about changing your clock an hour?

And they wonder why they earn the title 'Fake News' Every.Single.Day.

$.02 worth,
Boss

No, I wasn't, and I suspect you weren't, either. Were folks wearing masks then? My dad had 3 siblings who died of the Spanish Flu--1 just younger than he and 2 more somewhat younger than that. His parents and the other 8 siblings lived through it. My mom's family did not suffer deaths from the disease. All of my 37 First Cousins were born later than 1918.

Might want to re-think that. No one wore masks during the Spanish flu outbreak, nor were there lockdowns. Business was largely conducted outdoors, including barbering. People believed sunshine and fresh air prevented disease. They were largely correct.
