Didn't see this posted. I've been watching her updates for the last week or so. The inevitable worst case scenario has finally happened.

The village residents were evacuated from their homes on May 19 after local geologists warned that the glacier was unstable. They will likely never be able to return. https://x.com/CollinRugg/status/1928116883204755827

I hope no one was in the path of that. That is quite an event of nature. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Wow. I'm glad they had some forewarning. That's absolutely terrifying. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

That slide formed quite the alluvial-fan, reaching to the other side of the valley. Those Swiss valley's are pretty steep, while it does make for a dramatic setting, it also creates the possibility of catastrophic damage when things come loose.

I went to Switzerland last summer. While at Oeschingensee, we saw a rock slide from very far away. The sound took a while to get to us, but it was terrifying. I can't imagine living near that. It was like super loud thunder. That was in the middle of nowhere and on the far side of the lake. So no danger. But damn. There are a ton of towns at the base of huge mountains and glaciers there. Hi Dan, most unlikely. There was no plans for neither golf court, hotel, casion, wodka distillery nor university. The place has been wiped out. There were no victims. One person who went to check on his animals after the evacuation is missing. Further landslides are suspected. The lake that has formed due to the damming of the river poses an acute danger. Global warming though might have had an influence.

I was listening to an Alaskan Indian speaking about her people’s historical account of one of their villages a long time ago being destroyed by a glacier. While not like this event, she said the account said the glacier was moving as fast as a dog could run. Crazy stuff either way! Retired Texas Lawman
