I just bought a new Audi Q5 S-line 45 with the 2.0l, 261 HP four. It's a left over 2024 the dealer offered at a great price, so I bought it via the internet. Audi only has one dealer in Montana and it's 250+ miles from me. The first time I saw the Q5 it was on a truck being dropped off at my GA airport.

My first Audi in over 30 years; there have a almost 20 BMW's in the garage so I have some learning to do. With the 300 page owner's manual I was able to pair the phone, program the garage doors, and set-up the XM radio.

But, for the life of me can't seem to figure out how to make the Navigation function work. I press the "tile" on the MMI screen, but it just says you didn't pay for Nav!! ?? Either I'm too old and can't follow the instructions in the Owner's manual, or something is amiss.

Anyone here have an Audi and can tell me how to make the Nav work?

Sounds like it's a satellite-based subscription you have to sign up for or it won't work at all.

Give the dealer a quick call and you'll have the info in a matter of minutes.

Nice Car!

250 miles from an Audi dealer? Reminds of the Yoop when I see people here with Porsches. Or Mercedes. Or Teslas.

^^^^Probably this^^^^

I find most vehicle navigation systems to be inferior to googlemaps or Apple/Samsung car play which are free so why pay for a subscription based systems from Audi? You can verify with your dealership.

Nav is subscription iirc. A new car from the dealer comes with a working prepaid subscription, maybe 6 months.

Our 2025 Q7 nav still works without having paid any extra fee since new about 5 months ago. Sirius ran out at the 90 days.

You can turn the subscription on for short periods after it has expired, you don't have to buy an expensive long term subscription renewal.

That is all done via the Audi app or online through your Audi account. Since you didn't pick it up at the d3alership they didn't give you the full walkthrough.

Your Nav should be working. Call the dealer.

I don't have an Audi, but I do have a 2018 VW Tiguan which I believe is the same vehicle as yours, with different badging. The infotainment system/software is the same in both the VW and Audi.

Just pressing the Nav button works for me. Except, the VW Nav software sucks, run Waze on your mobile and use CarPlay to see it on the dash screen.

When I bought the car it came with a trial Sirius/XM subscription. My bet is that is what is needed to get Nav working. After the trial period, Sirius has kept on working without $$$, even after a couple of trips through the dealers "service" dept. where I'm sure they reset the computer a time or two. I am careful not to contact Sirius so they don't cut me off (not that they are so great, but I like the NASCAR coverage).

The navigation is tied to Sirius for the traffic information. Unless something changed, you should not need the subscription for the mapping portion.

Do you have the free trial of Sirius? Is there a SIM card or SD card or DVD?

Call the selling dealership and ask them about it.

Don't look at me, I had the technologist (didn't know that was a profession) set my car up for me. I don't have time to mess with that stuff. I'm sure mine probably has navigation, because it has every option possible that I know of. It's just not a function I would ever use.

EDIT - it does have navigation, but it's the silly Audi navigation. It's kind of neat you can put it on the speedometer, but again it's the built in nav that I won't use. The HUD and Right most gauge still displays my turns as well as the main screen with Android Audio. I'm not sure why it's an upgrade feature since I own a cellphone which is better than any built in navigation.

Plug your phone in and use apple car play, or android auto.

The connection to audi, I dont pay for. With the Audi App I can see the location of the car, lock and unlock doors, fuel status etc....

You also can but don't have to sign in as named driver but you need the 10 digit vehicle code.

I called the dealer, and as expected got double talk. I was told that although the MMI screen has a NAV "tile", the car was produced without the capability of NAV and I'm therefore SOL. They maintain NAV has to be ordered from the factory and on the MSRP window sticker.
That can't be right; who ever heard of an expensive new car that isn't even capable of putting NAV on the big center screen?

That's the dealer I bought the Q5 from and called today - maybe I'd be better off talking to the service manager? Mine is a S-Line 45 Premium Plus; not Prestige.

My bad - I was probably typing that out right as you posted the previous info after calling the dealer.

Mazda is the same way - at least a few years back when we looked at the CX-5 you had to get very near to the top of the line before you had a navigation as standard.

You can still go on Amazon and get a Nav SDCard for about $35 that will provide the info for the nav system and add Traffic Sign Recognition to the Mazda Heads Up Display. Most car companies don't bother because Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is at least 15x better than their nav systems.

That's exactly what I did, just to activate traffic sign recognition for the HUD.

I never use the factory navigation, because navigation via Apple Carplay/Android Auto is significantly better and most importantly doesn't require a subscription or to pay to update the maps.

Exactly. Built-in navigation is old tech. Phone-based navigation has taken over for 99.9% of drivers.

You’re not missing anything. Google maps and Apple Maps on the phone are both light years better than any built in app. It’s one of those features that automakers feel they are obliged to offer, but don’t spent a lot of effort on because literally no one uses them.
