Ever notice this? Apparently, it's the height of horror for them. Most shootings, all they tell you is that someone was shot, but if someone is shot in the head or the face, we are sure to hear about it from these lurid vultures.

Oh, and they gotta throw in the number of shots. "The man was shot fourteen times in the face and is expected to make a full recovery."

Getting shot in the face seems to be surprisingly non-lethal. When I was growing up the 'whoa!' shot was between the eyes.

Well, consider that the majority of the facial area doesn't necessarily overlap with the brain area very much.

The brain takes up the upper part of the head, with a smaller portion in the mid-rear, and an even smaller trailing spine down the back. Whereas the face hangs off the front of the skull, mostly beneath the brain. Even if we also factor in the two major blood pathways running up either side of the neck, that leave a decent chunk of the facial/lower skull area where getting shot is going to suck, but won't necessarily be fatal. Especially at certain angles.

From there, consider that damaging portions of the frontal area of the brain is debilitating to one extent or another, but not necessarily fatal.

Then factor in all all the "miracle" stories of being shot directly in the upper head area, and the bullet skirting around the skull under the skin and exiting the skin on the other side with minimal damage.

Now, I'm not saying that I'd volunteer to get shot in the face, but rather it shouldn't be that surprising that - anatomically speaking - being shot in the face isn't necessarily a death warrant.

To put it another way, from another angle, consider the classic "off switch" type of headshot target. It presents a comparatively small T-box in which a gunshot is likely to be near-instantly fatal due to striking the brain stem (including your "whoa-between-the-eyes" area...) But look at how much of the surrounding head/face isn't included in that.

Vultures is right.

Hang out, hovering over a almost dead body with a camera/microphone in hand. Contributing nothing to society at large outside of pandering and fear mongering. And even when presented with the facts, they still can't get shit right. Couldn't live more to the motto of "If it bleeds, it leads" if they tried...

Manfred Von Richtofen (The Red Baron) took a .303 shot to the noggin. It rang his bell but he was able to land and he survived it. Its now thought he had a lasting TBI that contributed to his later being killed in action.
I actually witnessed a .22LR shot to the face and head and was talking to the dude in a bar two weeks later!
The media is also hung up on round counts. I just read a BS story where some unfortunate soul was shot 119 times.

New Mexico woman shot in the face, kinda of a strange story.

TOMÉ — A Los Lunas woman is dead after shots were exchanged at a Tomé home on the Fourth of July.

Amanda Sullivan, 33, of Los Lunas, has been identified as the woman shot and killed during an attempt to steal a trailer from a home in the 80 block of Romero Road.

Residents at the home called 911 at about 9:30 p.m., Monday, July 4, to report people were trying to break into the house. Valencia County Sheriff’s Detective Ben Lankasky said the call was disconnected, but the residents called back, saying gunshots had been fired. When deputies arrived, the residents at the home were uninjured, the detective said.

While deputies were on their way to the home on Romero, another 911 call came in from Anthony Edgerton Jaramillo saying his girlfriend, later identified as Sullivan, had been shot in the face while they were on a ditchbank watching fireworks. The call came from somewhere on San Eligio, a private road that runs west off of La Entrada.

Jaramillo, 27, of Meadow Lake, is charged with attempted aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery, both third-degree felonies; and conspiracy to commit larceny, a fourth-degree felony, in relation to his alleged part of the crimes that led up to Sullivan’s death.

Lankasky said investigators are still waiting on forensic testing of evidence by the New Mexico state crime lab to determine who fired the shot that killed Sullivan. No one has been charged in relation to her death, the detective said.

A third man was with Sullivan and Jaramillo that night, but he has not been identified, the detective said, but there are persons of interest investigators are looking into. Lankasky said the residents at the home and the people who entered the property didn’t know each other.

On the night of July 4, one of the homeowners was outside watching the fireworks, carrying two AR-15 rifles with an extra magazine, a revolver, a thermal imaging unit with dead batteries and a compact Smith and Wesson “backup gun,” according to the criminal complaint filed against Jaramillo. He told deputies he and his wife had been having issues with the home being broken into.

The homeowner told deputies he saw two vehicles on a ditchbank approach a gate on the east side of his property. The vehicles — a black Ford pickup and a dark sedan — entered the property and the truck immediately backed up to a gooseneck trailer.

Jaramillo and Sullivan were in the pickup while a second man was driving the car, according to the criminal complaint.

The homeowner saw a man run from the car to the house, then heard someone banging on and kicking the back door. The report notes the kicking of the door could be heard in the 911 call made by his wife, who was inside the home.

The homeowner told officers he saw the man from the car run around the home, then heard banging on the front door. He followed the man but couldn’t find him.

That’s when the man by the gooseneck shot at him and the homeowner told them to get off the property. He said Sullivan got out of the passenger seat of the pickup and began walking towards him.

The driver of the Ford fired at him again and the homeowner returned fire. At one point, the woman was blocking his view of the driver of the pickup, the homeowner told deputies. During the exchange of gunfire, Sullivan was shot in the head and fell to the ground.

The driver of the pickup, later identified as Jaramillo, continued firing at the homeowner as he picked up Sullivan and put her in the truck. Both vehicles left, going east on Romero.

Deputies located the black pickup on San Eligio, parked with the passenger door open. Sullivan was on the ground on her back, and Jaramillo was standing over her with a white, bloodstained cloth in his hand.

Deputies placed Jaramillo in handcuffs and put in a patrol unit while deputies attempted to find a pulse for Sullivan, but no pulse was found. Medical personnel at the scene confirmed she was dead.

Jaramillo was arrested and booked into the Valencia County Detention Center on outstanding warrants out of the village of Bosque Farms and Valencia County. He was ordered held on a $3,000 cash or surety bond by Magistrate Miles Tafoya, and bonded out on Saturday, July 9.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

That could take awhile. They're still trying to figure out the Baldwin shooting.

No, if you can’t do it in 15 shots you committed the serious tactical error of not bringing your rifle. And you committed a second error by not brining all your friends with their rifles.

Yeah. Why don't they just say that someone was shot?

This is what you get when you have tabloid "journalists" doing everything they can to sensationalize stories, and especially with those dealing with "gun violence".

Over 50 shot, at least 4 fatally, in violent weekend in Chicago

CHICAGO — Nearly 50 people have been shot in Chicago so far this weekend. At least four were killed.

Two fatal shootings occurred within minutes of each other early Sunday.

Police said one man was shot and killed and two other critically wounded while changing a tire on the West Side around 3:15 a.m..

Police said the men were in the 3300 block of West Harrison when a dark colored SUV approached. A man got out of the SUV and fired several shots at the men then fled the scene.

Police said a 30-year-old was shot in the face and pronounced dead on the scene. Another man was shot seven times and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The third man was shot in the legs, arm and body and was also taken to the hospital in critical condition.

3 shot while attending funeral at South Side church
A short time later, in an unrelated shooting, police said a man was killed while trying to break up an argument between two other people inside a residence in the city’s Back of the Yard neighborhood.

A man and a 25-year-old woman were involved in an argument inside a residence in the 5400 block of South Winchester Avenue around 3:30 a.m. when a 37-year-old attempted to intervene, police said.

The man produced a gun and fired shots. The 37-year-old was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was shot in the right armpit and taken to the hospital where she was stabilized, police said.

Police are investigating both incidents.

On Saturday, a 34-year-old man and another individual got into an argument at a party near Lawndale Avenue and West Fullerton Street in Logan Square. After the argument, the individual pulled out a gun and shot the 34-year-old in the head. The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.

Original Maxwell Street employee shot, killed while working service window on West Side
Additionally Saturday, three people were shot while attending a funeral in Roseland on the Far South Side. Police said, family members were gathered outside Universal Community Missionary Baptist Church when someone opened fire from a passing car.

On Friday, an employee at the Original Maxwell Street on the West Side was working the service window at the restaurant when he was shot in the face. The man was transported in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No one is in custody in any of the fatal incidents.
