I used to shoot subsonic .22 pellets in my Beeman Goldfinger. The noise of the spring piston alone is similar to or louder than the .22 rifle with CB caps. Air rifles can get to be an expensive proposition, especially if you move into the PCP type.

My break action .177 is louder than a subsonic 22 out of my rifle.

I use a benjamin Maruader 25cal pcp air rifle.

It's probably out of your budget if you just want something to take out a pest once a year.

If your into precision backyard shooting, it is a great entry level into pcp air guns.

Mine currently puts out 49 foot lbs of force. With good placement I have one shot raccons and ground hogs.

I had a room mate in college that dispatched a skunk in the garage with a compound bow. The smell lingered for months! Frown Eek

I doubt the issue was the crossbow as a quality crossbow will have more stopping power than a pellet gun. That being said, I feel your pain. I live in the country and Polecats are not fun.

I have a Gamo break action and it would certainly kill a mink but you have to think head shots only. Also, as others have said, they are loud. I think I gave around two bills for that Gamo ten years ago.
