ChicagoSigManIt's not the switch apparently. I took the wires out of the switch and wire-nutted them together and the breaker still tripped. So it must be an issue somewhere between the switch and the lightbulb.
There is a wire coming out of the wall that goes to a box behind the sconce, then another wire that goes from that box to a box behind the other sconce. The first sconce has 3 black wires (one from the wall, one from the sconce and one from the other sconce wire-nutted together. Same with 3 white wires. There are also ground wires.
I think I've gone as far as I can. I don't want to start taking apart all the wiring.

Skins2881It never hurts to have a pro figure it out. Most likely a loose connection or bad fixture. Unless wiring was damaged by a nail or animals, it should be a quick service call.
