I'm sure many, if not most, people would find this senator's behavior wrong and abhorrent for punching this 17 year old kid. While I can certainly understand this sentiment I will admit that I more strongly felt a profound sense of inner joy to see this obnoxious little pissant receive a bit of instant karma for his stupid act of egging this guy while filming it with his cell phone. I'm sure there will be repercussions for this senator, and it probably wasn't smart or wise, but it was damn enjoyable to watch. The kid's old enough to know that there are consequences for actions and some lessons are harder than others. I bet he keeps his eggs more to himself from now on.

I'm torn. The senator should be above retaliating for an egging, both for his position and his age. On the other hand, hopefully the punch had enough pain with it that it awakened the young punk and taught him a valuable lesson that obviously he hasn't received at home. The egging is still an assault in my mind.

I really hope the punch hurt, for the kid's sake. And I hope he isn't taught the wrong lesson by the senator receiving repercussions from the punch.

That senator reacted immediately after something hit his head.
That seemed like an instantaneous reaction to me to being assaulted.

I doubt he knew it was an egg in real time.

The kid deserved it IMO.

It was enjoyable to watch the little shit get slugged. He was recording egging the senator and it probably wasn't the result he was expecting.

I don't know NZ laws, but in Texas I doubt the Senator would be facing charges and the teen would likely be in juvenile detention for assault. Senator already getting raked over the coals by the media for blaming the shooting on immigration so I doubt this makes it much worse for him.

The kid deserved it.

I played the video at 1/4 speed and the senator's first shot looked like a pretty good hit.

I don't care he was 17 or which "side" he was on. He assaulted someone probably thinking due to his age and political motivation he was justified.

Got a simple reminder about actions. That said Oz & NZ used to not be as litigious as here in the US but I haven't been back in quite a while.

Have not read other comments, yet. But when I was 17 I was in the US army! Barely turned 18 when stationed along the E/W German border watching them watch us.

That’s how I saw it and the kid probably still hurts from the takedown AFTER the punch.

I agree with the senator in his statements and his reaction to being assaulted. Teenagers don't get a pass, you assault someone you just may get your ass kicked. What world does this kid live in that he thinks this is appropriate, oh yea he's a leftist.

Eggs today, rocks tomorrow.

It's at points that this that civilization gets to chose, not how it will respond, but whether it will continue to exist.

People will always say, or be able to say, mean, abhorrent, and inaccurate things. Western civilization was built on, among other things, the concept of a marketplace of ideas and the assumption that the best cure for bad idea was a good one. Once we begin justifying violence in the suppression of ideas, the new standard will not be autonomous choice and self-determination, but who can most quickly and efficiently employ violence to silence dissenting voices.

mmmmm....no, I'm good with it.

BTW, thanks to all active members of this forum. Not a word was posted about this shooting for a good long while, and we still don't have a primary thread on the subject.

This is the kind of reaction (in direct counter to the ravenous, bloodthirsty, sensationalistic news media) that I've strived for in this forum for many years, so, thank you very much. You guys get it.

I think the senator had the right to defend himself. The blow came from behind. He didn't know what hit him other than something did and the kid was the obvious perp. I say swing for the fences. let all of these little puke Leftist cowards suffer a bit if assault is their method. All of this in the moment. I don't think premeditated retaliation is warranted. We still need the rule of law so hunting them down and beating them is a no go for me.

I’m good with it. I’ve arrested people for eggings. It’s considered an assault. Don’t play stupid games. My give a shit meter for young people is long gone.

Looks like he reacts to an assault. Not sure he even knew what hit him. More just saw the person swing at him and felt an impact on his head. I wouldn't fault his reaction to the assault.
