The Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery returned to St Louis after 2 years and 8,000 miles. They opened up everything West of The Mississippi for exploration and settlement. They were a very brave group.

It was a remarkable example of leadership and team cohesion. I highly recommend the book "Undaunted Courage" by Stephen E. Ambrose.

We took some of the grandkids on an RV adventure this summer to the Oregon and Washington sites. They had a great time learning about frontier life. Honestly, I was a bit surprised at their interest given they live in this modern electronic world, but they really enjoyed it. Indians, building log cabins in the woods, living off of hunting and fishing, frontier clothing, all that kind of stuff still appeals to kids these days. Especially at the live recreations such as Fort Clatsop at the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park where they got to see people dressed in period costumes and demonstrating how the expedition lived.

On the return trip, John Colter was allowed to leave the expedition. He was one of the first Europeans to explore the Yellowstone area. Amazing survival skills to wander around that area. Lots of very skilled people on that trip that made it possible.
They had great leadership and serious talent in that group.
