I thought I would share this here. With all the misery, fear, worrying and bickering, I found it refreshing. Maybe you will too.

I work part-time at the local gunshop. The last 2.5 weeks have been a shit show in there. 1st time buyers, hoarders, mouth breathers and gang bangers stripping the shop bare and buying up everything not nailed down.

So a few days ago, I'm on the register with a line of customers. Basically telling them no to their repeated requests. "Got any 556 or 223?" "Got any fotay?" "Got any tactical shotguns?" "Got any 380?" NO! All of that was gone in the first week. And there wont be anymore for six to eight weeks according to the distributors.

In walks this lady. Well dressed, late 40s early 50s. She gets in the line and waits patiently. When it comes her turn I ask her how I can help her. She says;"I have a 9mm pistol and need some defensive ammo. My ring door bell says there have already been some break ins close to where I live."

At that point we were down to 2 cases of Sig V-Crown left. The aforementioned panic buyers having run through almost 20 cases of defensive 9mm. I tell her I have the V-Crown left and quote her the box price and case price. She thinks a minute and says; "I'll take one." I ask her one box or one case? She says; "Just make it two of the boxes. I don't want there to be none left for the next person."

Me and the manager were stunned and surprised. We had probably 2500 to 3000 customers. Not one giving a shit about anyone but themselves for the last 2 weeks. I said to her "Did you just say you wanted to leave some for the others?" She seemed a little surprised and a bit embarrassed. "Yes." she replied.

I told her she was a nice person who had been raised right. And that was a rare find these days. I told the manager I was giving her the two boxes free of charge. He had heard the exchange and what she had said. He told me to give her 4 boxes. She was very surprised and thanked us. We thanked her!

When I got home I told my lovely wife ; "Hey, you were right. There is a decent person left out there. I met her at the shop today." Regards 18DAI

Awesome gesture on everyone's part! Thought I was watching the ending of Old Yeller there for a minute.

I suspect many here on this forum would act in the same fashion- did you extend her an invitation? Big Grin

The other day I took only one of the last two English muffin packs which we easily go through a pack in 3 days. Just in case someone needed it too.

A nice story. Good on you, your manager and shop. She'll remember that generous experience and probably be a long time customer.

Chicken has been impossible to find in our rural northern AZ grocery stores. I happened to be in a store at the right time and found 10 packages of chicken breasts just put out. I took two and left the others. Immediately another customer snatched up the remaining packages. He just smirked at me.

At times like these, it seems people are either selfish or selfless.

Good to hear this! I have a hunch there are more good occurances like this, we just don't hear about them as much.

Good on all three of you. I suspect that az4783054 is right and that between you and your manager you’ve created a loyal, long term customer.

Beauty and thanks for sharing.

I was at the store this morning getting some things. I had embraced the Noahs Ark approach and was buying 2 each of the necessities whether there was a sign or not.

That's the way it should be in all aspects of purchases of scarce items! Sadly that is not the case...

I hope the store management called him on it. Some stores are limiting quantities to prevent jerks like that from creating false shortages.

The store is Fry's (Kroger). They do post a 2x limit on many scarce items right now. If customers ignore the signs on the doors, the cashier reminds them upon checkout.

I would have followed him to check out and in a very loud voice said: "Hey you need one more chicken breast, you missed this one"?

Simply make a fool of him in public.
