New House Dems are beginning to line up to NOT vote for Pelosi as House Speaker.

Mikie Sherril, NJ http://thehill.com/homenews/ho...wont-vote-for-pelosi

Joe Cunningham, SC http://www.msnbc.com/kasie-dc/...67854147825?v=raila&

Max Rose NY, Jason Crow CO, Haley Stevens MI, Anthony Brindisi NY, Jeff Van Drew NJ, Conor Lamb PA, Abigail Spanberger, VA http://www.cbsnews.com/news/wh...house-speaker-again/

Even now, Pelosi's having a hard time mustering the 218 votes she'll need. While a viable opponent hasn't emerged from the House Democrat morass, those opposed to her are bragging that they can deny her enough votes to keep her from becoming the House Speaker. http://www.breitbart.com/polit...les-reach-218-votes/

As if that weren't enough to be getting on with, 200 protestors massed outside of Pelosi's office in DC to demand (get this) a "Green New Deal" to achieve a swift transition to 100 percent renewable energy. And who's there to harangue the crowds, nay, whip them into a frenzy? La Gran Macarena herself, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. http://www.usnews.com/news/pol...losis-office-protest

So what does this mean for the rest of us? The Dems have made a lot of promises that they're going to have a very hard time keeping in the face of a Senate and White House that we know are still in Republican hands. What's more, and they're relying on a passel of newcomers who distinguished themselves in the last election as rebels and insurgents, and who clearly have no respect for the Dem establishment.

Oh, yeah, and they're going to have to work their "magic" in the exceedingly narrow time frame (at least in political terms) of the two years between now and the next elections. Heaven help them if they fail; they've promised the moon and stars in order to get massive voter turnout (on top of massive efforts to "find" ballots all over the place). If they don't deliver then they're going to be up against a massively motivated (read, "pissed") Republican voter base in 2020 and they're going to have to face that prospect with a Dem voter base that will have given electoral victory their best shot - and gotten absolutely nothing out of it.

Is Pelosi probably going to become the Speaker again? At this point my WAG is that she will. The questions for me are these - how much of that oh-so-precious two years are going to be wasted in the course of getting her elected Speaker, how committed to her leadership (as opposed to their own hare-brained ideas) are the "young guns" going to be, and how many hare-brained ideas is Nancy going to have to commit to in order to get re-elected as Speaker?

There are still elections that are up in the air, and there's no reason to give up hope that they'll result in Republicans being elected to office. After all, it costs Republicans nothing to stick to their guns in the face of a series of Democrat attempts to manufacture votes.

But it's also important to remember that, at best, the Dems have a fair number of hobbles and headwinds to contend with in the course of keeping what still look like utterly unrealistic promises.

So the next time you're tempted to let yourself descend into a swamp of depression or argue that learned helplessness is somehow sophistication, put those thoughts on a shelf for a second - and check out what kind of hell the Dems are inflicting on their own in the midst of an attempt to achieve the impossible. After all, you know what all those big promises and grandiose statements were actually for, right? To make the rest of us lose heart and give up.

That said, Jason Crow has already announced that he would NOT back Pelosi for speaker position.

Now, we have a history here of bending over for Dems (Hickenpooper is/was the worst), but if he holds to it, it's one less vote for her.

^^^ How do the knee breakers intimidate anyone who (1) has no idea what they're doing, (2) has no idea how to get anything done, and (3) got elected to Congress as part of the "fuck you" movement?

Look, we either want her as speaker, or someone even crazier.

Our best shot at 2020 is to have the dems go off the damned deep end. We have the Senate and the Presidency. Nothing they do that is full of crazy is getting passed, or signed into law, and we still get the executive department and judicial nominations we want.

Let 'em go full crazy.

I think there is a reason why Trump wants Pelosi to be speaker.

Publicly she is a moronic crazed witch. But she has been in this game for eons. She has always positioned herself in almost absolute Democrat power, merely getting elected into office term after term is not her story. She has real power. And to attain that power, she has made many deals. She is not a SWJ newcomer, she is old school conniving. And Trump would rather do business with a dealmaker than a SJW. And perhaps he knows her presence is a big fuck you to the new extreme lesbian-commie-socialists in the party.

Personally, I think we should have as many Repub's as necessary cross over and vote for her to insure she wins the speakership. Pelosi is almost universally hated by everyone, so give here the gavel and let her take down the rest of the Dem part between now and 2020.

^^^ That would only be fair. How many Dems did it take Mitch McConnell to be re-elected to the Senate?

I agree with those who say that we want her in. Yes (chortles with glee), the Dems' choices are between crazy and crazier. And yes, she's a dealmaker - who'll have to either make a lot of deals with the craziest wing of the Dem congressional caucus, or cram a lot of deals down the throats of the craziest wing of the Dem congressional caucus. Either way, I can see the Dems just plain not getting a whole lot of anything done over the next two years - which would be a great way to set up the Republicans for the 2020 elections.

Given how hard the Dems have tried to portray Trump as being a nutcase who is constitutionally (small "c", folks) beyond the pale, I can't think of anyone better than Nancy to convince the independent voters that, in DC, Trump and the Republicans are the only adults in the room.

How about splitting the Republican House vote for Speaker to get her and Nancy as close as possible to a dead tie - and keeping the vote there for as long as possible? There may be all kinds of fun to be had here.

And then, once the Speaker has been elected with "bi-partisan support" and all the donkeys are ready to kill each other, the Republicans just step back and enjoy, or perhaps exploit, the chaos.

^^ Hey, if Sheila Jackson Lee could illegally tap her office expenses fund to lease a car so that an aide could drive her the 200 feet from her apartment to the front door at Congress, then surely a Speaker Ocasio-Cortez could do the same!
