I just checked here, The notice said all Lowe's stores will be closed.

And I am very pleasantly surprised that they are doing this!!!

Sorry to be a party pooper, but they give everyone a day off to avoid paying them a Holiday rate, don't pay them for it, on a holiday that's not great for their sales. I like Lowes, spend lots of money there but my guess is their trying to save a few bucks.

I am not aware of any business that considers Easter a “holiday” in terms of holiday pay. Just like St. Patrick’s Day, or Halloween while it is a recognized day for celebration based on ones beliefs or culture, it is not a government recognized holiday and therefore employers aren’t paying anyone extra to work it unless they specifically want to.

This isn’t an “evil business” trying to make more profits. I imagine the cancel culture folks will be all over it though and announce a boycott in 3, 2, 1...

Me, too, although they were mostly in the South. The few stores that were allowed to be open were limited in what they could sell, too. Some of the restrictions made no sense.

Whenever I go to Lowe's its almost impossible to get quality help. Then I go to Home Depot and they have far better selection and plenty of staff to answer questions. Lowe's used to be good until the original company was sold many years ago. Right after they were sold the quality went down as they cut costs. Surprised they are still in business.

As the fine print states, there'll be 'other opportunities to make up for the pay loss' Ahh, yes, always looking out for the lowly worker-bee.

It'd be nice if stores weren't open ALL THE TIME. I don't think there should be any mandates or, laws written but, it'd be nice for a bit more push-back on the finance department to shut-up and build in some breaks every once in a while. Stores don't need to be open 12-hrs/day, 7-days/week, 365

That's interesting as it's the opposite around here, Lowes has more staff available than HD, maybe it's more to do with local management styles..

Laying them off for a day is not a sign of appreciation.

I did read the entire post, letting them make up the hours by working later is not a sign of appreciation either.

I am not aware of any business that considers Easter a “holiday” in terms of holiday pay. Just like St. Patrick’s Day, or Halloween while it is a recognized day for celebration based on ones beliefs or culture, it is not a government recognized holiday and therefore employers aren’t paying anyone extra to work it unless they specifically want to.

This is exactly correct, and their choosing not to. So no sign of appreciation.

If you want to show your appreciation give them a day off and pay them for it, that's appreciation.

If you've ever had a job, and I'm sure you have, you should recall where the employer provides a list of company paid holidays.

Nothing nefarious about it nor, are any companies required to give any holidays.

Customer service really depends on who you get, not the entire store, in my opinion. Long story but I had both worst and best customer service at the same Lowes for the same product order.

I was in Lowes in summer trying to buy Calcium Chloride for the pool. It's sold as ice melt. In stock online, but I couldn't find it. The girl at Customer Service desk couldn't even be bothered to look on the computer for a location. She just told me if it's not in pool section they don't have it. I explained it was ice melt and is available online. She insisted it wasn't in stock.

I left and ordered it for pickup next day online. A week went by and they still didn't contact me that it was pulled. So I went into the store and they told me I'd be notified and it wasn't pulled yet. I told them it said "same day pickup". WTF. I asked if I could pull it myself. They said yes but wouldn't help me find it.

Anyhow I found a worker in an aisle and asked him. He looked on the computer. It was put away on the top rack of the outside seasonal stuff. He got another worker, got the forklift, brought the box down and brought it to the desk for me. Everyone up to that point sucked but this one guy made a strong effort.
