I was selected for regular jury duty and now everything is online so you fill out a huge questionnaire. After I sent in the questionnaire, I got an email saying I have now been selected for possibly serving on the grand jury. I then had to fill out another survey and today went through the selection process with the court. I was selected along with 11 others out of 75 people to serve and will serve 3 days a week for 3 months. Will be a pain as now have to serve in-person, deal with rush hour traffic, and lose time working on my regular job but I think it will be kind of cool. I have testified many times before a grand jury and now I get to be on the other side. NRA Benefactor Life Member

3 days per week, for 3 months? Did you type that correctly? And did I read it correctly?

That is correct. 3 days a week for 3 months. Major county in a large city. It is 3 hours per day so not the entire day. NRA Benefactor Life Member

One of our lab techs did a couple years ago, but I think hers was 1 day/week, but I think it was a longer stint per day. The Enemy's gate is down.

It just changed back to 3 months. During COVID it was a 6 month term but all virtual via Zoom. Now it is back to in-person and 3 months. I really don’t like the idea of rush hour traffic with today’s gas prices but oh well. NRA Benefactor Life Member

I did it once back in Virginia for the county court, but only for a single 8 hr day. Very interesting process, also interesting hearing individual LEOs describe the situations that led to the arrest in question. --------------------------------------- It's like my brain's a tree and you're those little cookie elves.

I was on a similar schedule on a grand jury in Atlanta around 2009. For me it was a very interesting experience not only in getting a better look at what was really going on in various parts of the city, but also because we had a wide representation of the local population impaneled and the different perspectives to the various cases gave me a lot of food for thought.

In the end it took them 40 minutes to select the jurors and they said they would be making sure it was different people from all spectrums and geographic areas of the county. I am surprised I was selected with what I do, but then I am also not surprised. NRA Benefactor Life Member

Had grand jury in 2020. What a nightmare. First off, prosecuters dont give a rats ass about your time. Show up, wait around, sorry prosecuters not ready. Go home come back Thursday. Thanks, you just wasted 3 hours of mine and my employers time. Second, once the prosecuter decides to grace you with his presence, since the level of evidence to indict is just a smidge over "I said so", they present almost nothing and expect to get indictment. Example: Grainy video shows guy in grey hoody setting dumpster fire. 2 hours later a guy in a grey hoody is arrested. Question to prosecuter, Anything to tie man to fire? Accelerant, lighter, burns on clothes etc? Nope, just wearing grey hoody. Yep, indicted.

I'd FAR rather be seated on a grand jury than a petit jury. With my luck I'd get some civil fence line dispute. You get to hear all the cool stuff on a grand jury.

Exactly how I felt. I have already been the foreman on a criminal trial jury and it sucked. Got a deserved guilty verdict, but I had to talk sense into many jurors who wanted to vote on opinion. NRA Benefactor Life Member

We’ll burden of proof at grand jury IS only probable cause. Proof beyond a reasonable doubt will come at criminal trial. NRA Benefactor Life Member

$40 per day so $120 a week since we meet 3 times a week. NRA Benefactor Life Member

Two good friends of mine served on a grand jury. One in Houston, and one in San Antonio. Both said it was fascinating. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

I served on a federal grand jury once. It was for a full year. Yes, an eye opening experience.

I served on Grand Jury twice in NJ. First time was around 1970, it was a great experience. We met 2-3 times a week for a couple of months. The prosecutors were excellent, sometimes we'd get "the rest of the story". As a group we were a lot of fun, interesting people. We had a big party, prosecutors even came, they said we were the best ever. Second time was early '90s, different county. One day a week for a couple of months. Prosecutors were awful, "indict a ham sandwich" type. I was not their favorite juror. The group had no cohesion, just came in and left without even acknowledging each other. ________________________________ "Nature scares me" a quote by my friend Bob after a rough day at sea.

Correct me but thought that a grand jury inditement (a true bill) vs a (no true bill) only indicates that there is probable cause to bring that person to trial... or let the person go free..... And that the DA guides the panel so depending on the findings he can say his hands are/were tied as to whether further legal proceedinds are carried forward or dropped ...... Copout on the DA"s actions depending on the grand jury findings. .........,,,,,,,.... drill sgt.
